OFFICIALLY A CORNELL UNIVERSITY ALUMNI! Renee Frohnert, Masters in Systems Engineering Class of 2019! This has been such an amazing journey. I pursued a Masters in August 2017 while working as an engineer full-time at Lockheed Martin. Working 40+ hours per week and balancing school was difficult to say the least. It taught me how to be not just a Master of Engineering, but a Master of time management and working with high-performing teams across multiple timezones and cultures
.
.
I almost quit being a Woman in STEM. I almost quit my undergrad degree after getting a 1.5 GPA my first semester. I almost quit my graduate degree before I even started, worried I would not make it through. I wanted to give up on engineering all together because there would be instances where I would be the only woman in a room with 30+ engineers. Though I knew my goals were to be a leader developing spacecrafts... and this degree would help me get to that goal. I stayed up until 3 AM most nights after work. I took twice as many courses as the on-campus students in order to complete my degree as quick as possible. I was ready to give up due to stress and feeling completely burnt out / overwhelmed. QUITTING WAS NOT AN OPTION, ESPECIALLY FOR WOMEN IN STEM. I knew what I wanted and made it happen anyways. I graduated with a 3.8 GPA and am so thankful I stayed with it
.
.
I am so thankful for all that I have gained. I look forward to applying this knowledge on multiple spacecrafts, and even sending humans to Mars with NASA Orion. I will post my commencement speech soon. But first, I am going to take some time to myself to reflect, relax, and enjoy this major life milestone
.
.
P.S.: This is what an engineer looks like. Just FYI, to those haters who say women don’t belong in engineering. We are out here grinding #ilooklikeanengineer .

Me: Mum I got a silver play button reward from YouTube!
Mum: oh is there money?
Me: ...no... Mum: ...oh.
How do parents know how to so effectively diminish your achievements?
Haha but seriously thank you everyone who made this possible and has joined me on this journey. This wouldn’t have been possible without each and every one of you who watched, subscribed to and shared my videos. You should be proud that you are challenging yourselves to learn new things and have such a keen interest in science that you actually watch videos about it in your spare time. You sound really cool and together we can change the world Cheers to the long road ahead and I hope you’ll stick with me on this path! Yay for science!! The nerds will take over eventually JUST YOU WATCH WORLD!!! And I’m sure deep down my mummy really is proud of me, even if an ancient Chinese proverb forbids her from telling me so (her words). •
