"We Are Fighters, Too," presents the stories of women fighters in the D.R. Congo, where the narrative is indeed more complex than the many tales of victimhood we are accustomed to.  In DRC's fighting forces, which number over 120, women work as combatants, medics, cooks and spies.  These are their stories. Jasmine Zawade Likoko, 41, lives in Goma, D.R. Congo. Her father, a Congolese Hutu, had five wives and died when she was young, leaving her mother, a Rwandan Tutsi, brother and her destitute. As a result, she never attended school. "I felt that the only way I could contribute or to fight back was to join an armed group." So she joined the militia group Mai-Mai Natura in 2011, and for three years worked in logistics, intelligence, food preparation, and sometimes fought.
