My husband keeps me humble.... • ...by taking pictures of me every time I fall asleep, which is typically in the car with mouth open, double chin in full affect, slouched and belly protruded. • It makes me laugh , but also reminds me of the harsh inner critic (aka. Irene) that lives inside me. • All to often I allow her to speak lies over me. -You are fat. -You look horrible. -You aren’t making any progress. • It may take a while, but then I am reminded of the Holy Spirit that lives inside me desiring to fill my head and heart with truth. -Beauty is not the number on a scale or the size of pants you wear. -Speaking harshly and critically about yourself doesn’t help with your inner or outer beauty. -I am sanctifying you and pruning you each and every day for God’s glory not your glory. • Two verses come to mind: - 1 Tim. 4:8: For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and life to come. - 1 Sam. 16:7: The Lord does not look at the things man looks at. Self-care is a word our culture has hijacked to include all sorts of activities that mostly promote vanity over care for one’s true self. • What is something you do that breathes life into you? • What is something you do that helps you show up best for your people? • What is something you do that makes you feel most connected to God? • I had to remind myself of the answers to those questions a few years ago, but I was miserable and wasn’t sure why. I sat in a counselor’s office and she helped me identify how to best care for myself, not in a selfish way, but in a “doing .... helps me show up for my people” way. • Last night, my husband fed the kids, bathed them, and put them to bed, because I needed some “self-care.” • I put on my walking shoes and headed out on a quiet trail. The 2nd incredible thing that I got to do this week was attend @lauren_daigle Look Up Child concert and QA with two of my best friends. • Y’all it was all I anticipated and then a WHOLE lot more. • First, to further fuel my love for @bobgoff Lauren shared how he encouraged her to travel with Mr. Potato Heads, so she remembers her child-like wonder. (If you haven’t read or listened to #lovedoes or #everybodyalways , please do). • I asked a question about her music manager @leighholt , who ministered and encouraged me greatly during my college days. @lauren_daigle reply was just as I thought it would be, Leigh is an encourager and keeps me sane. I am so grateful for her and her friendship. • Third, @scottmulvahill opened for Lauren. I loved hearing him again! • Fourth, I was introduced to @ahimusic for the first time and WHOA! His voice is like butter. So full of soul. • Fifth, @lauren_daigle , her band, and her back-up singers were ! How often do you go on date nights?⠀ •⠀ To be honest, we don’t go often enough. ⠀ •⠀ When we go out it takes us a few hours to unwind and get in the groove of conversing uninterrupted. Rarely, do we have the privilege of going on a date that lasts longer than a few hours, because we have a babysitter we need to go home and pay and relieve.⠀ •⠀ However, we do have the privilege of my in-laws flying to visit us every 2-3 months. Their here, so last night our date night lasted for 4 hours!!! It was so nice. We ate yummy food, drank delicious drinks, listened to music, conversed, and laughed a lot. ⠀ •⠀ I love this man. A LOT!! My children are small and one of my greatest fears is the lack of relationship with my adult children.
