Back to school prepping over here with these signal tent for my kids . I use these signal tents to do a quick check around the room. These tents help me differentiate between who needs help right away or who can wait. I first call my kids that need help right away then the other groups. Did you know that phonics instruction doesn’t stop till 8th grade? So, Let’s talk about making word work hands on! Spelling and phonics is still crucial instruction at #fourthgrade ! In this picture Mr. Cabrera from @Nisdcable does an amazing job in bringing hands on to word work. So how could we use this in #upperelementary ? I would use these word tent and replace them with different affixes and Greek words. This is a great way for kids to see the relations with words and how one affix can change the meaning of the word. One of my favorite traditions to do in my classroom is to celebrate my birthday with my kids! It also falls towards the end of the year so it’s perfect. This day consists of fun with academic rigor. I put a twist to all of my favorite games, tv shows and music that I listened to as a kid. We review academic concepts while jamming to the best of 90’s pop! I guess you can say it’s a #classroomtransformation But my favorite memory of this day are the memories my kids share about our year together. #throwbackthursday Is still a thing, right? One of my favorite grammar lessons last year [that wasn’t even a lesson] was when I put Ron Swanson on the board with one of my favorite quotes of his. We were punctuating quotes, and the kids referred back to Ron so often to pull on the skill. It was like I built my own comedic relief into my day. If fourth graders are going to talk nonstop, you might as well teach them to quote your favorites! Am I right?! #teacherlife

We are 37 weeks in the school year and my kids can benefit from a review of #classroom expectations and procedures. . Turn N talk is one of those procedures I use a lot in my class. It can be used in any subject and all grade levels. . They are short and quick procedures that can be used no matter what you teach. I love it because it’s an easy way to do a quick of check of the class. . Lately our turn and talk have turned into jump and shout . I’m hoping this #anchorchart will get them back on track. .
