✏️ Growing grapes has taught me so much about viticulture. Mostly that growing grapes in Ohio’s crazy climate is H A R D. ...but also I understand the process a lot better than I used to. ⠀⠀ This photo shows the “Flowering” phase of the growth cycle. During this phase, the vines self pollinate and transform the little flowers into grape berries! Typically, only about 30% of fruit remain after this phase! ⠀⠀ ⛈ Add some harsh weather (like Ohio’s cold, wind, and rain) and the flowering process can be more negatively affected! ⠀⠀ Here’s hoping this wet start to summer didn’t do too much damage to our thriving varietals! We are on year 4 and hoping to get SOME decent fruit this fall! « Biodiversity » is a word I start to hear from producers. Great wine is made in the vineyard Spring is an exciting time bc vines are now awake from their winter nap & buds are breaking! As temps rise and the sun lingers a little longer each day, vines begin to burst with green shoots ☀️. During our visit with @paradigmwinery a couple weeks ago we saw fruit clusters on the vine already! Some say early grape growth in the spring could be a signal of an early harvest ...only time & climate will tell. Each season is pivotal and will have an effect on this year’s vintage. Is there a season you find exceptionally interesting?
