Today’s #MarkMartinMonday is a special one for me, this is the first design I ever created for the legendary Mark Martin, back in 1998. If you’ve been following my post you’ll know that this was back when I was primarily designing tee shirts… every now and then I was given the opportunity to design a car (see my post from June 8th for the story about designing Dale Earnhardt’s 1996 Olympic Stars and Stripes car). It never gets boring creating race car liveries. I guess it might be something like asking a driver if it ever gets old winning races! This design marks one of my early wins! Swipe left to see other car angles and and my original car layout from 1998. On the last slide you’ll see my die cast of this one (still in the box). Anyone else out there have this die cast? One more thing, notice the website on the deck lid. It may sound strange to hear this today, but back in those early years it was a little progressive to put a website on a car… I wonder when a website was first added to a car? I thought it was a good day to open up the Tee Shirt Vault and break out another design to add to my #MarkMartinMonday collection! This is design I created for Martin when I was working with Track Gear, which happened to sponsor one of Jeff Burton’s Xfinity (formerly Busch Series) cars when he drove for Roush. I’d like to thank everyone who voted for my design in the Nationwide #88 paint scheme contest. Even though I didn’t win it was really fun and I have to say, my favorite part was seeing all your support, encouraging words, Story Posts, etc, etc! I’m grateful to be connected to you all. This post is one last glance in the rear view mirror before we move on. As you’re probably aware each designer could submit up to two designs in the contest but only one had a chance of being picked for the final 4. This was my other design that didn’t make it to the finals. So, just for fun, if you had to pick between the two of my designs, which one would you have picked to advance to the finals?
