But If it doesn’t serve you, or it’s the ONLY way you know to track how you’re doing, switch it up and cover me or put me away for a bit.

Let’s talk about your grip! @ucanrow2 Master Instructor @cassi.niemann knows that just a couple of small changes can make all the difference. Plus make your stroke more efficient and your rowing more enjoyable!

1 - Put your hands as far out to the ends of the handle as possible, without the pinky finger falling off the end. Wrap the thumbs. This makes room for your knees to come up at the catch.
*
2 - Keep the hands loose by carrying the handle in your fingers. Avoid white knuckles at any point of the stroke. This helps reduce calluses and wasted energy.
*
3 - You shouldn't hit yourself with the handle at the finish, the hands barely brush the body before changing direction. No one likes bruises.
*
4 - As seen here, when you're in the recovery of the stroke, wiggle your fingers around, play with your grip and relax your hands. "Play the piano." This helps with sweaty hands, over-gripping, relaxing the forearms, and focusing on hanging on the handle as you PUSH down with the legs, not using the arms to PULL on the handle.

So play the piano in your recovery, adjust your grip and relax a little! Work smarter, not harder.
