Posted @withrepost • @alexdowsett I like world firsts and I think this is one of them. • There was some great content coming out of the @katushacycling time at the Dauphine last week, mainly pics of @madswurtzschmidt looking moody, @jensdebusschere flexing his muscles, @nilspolitt’s tongue, my bottom lip, @josegoncalvesim and @rubenguerreiro94 smiling and @steffcras’s baby face were all captured by this guy, Sean Hardy, @hardyccphotos. • What you won’t have known and this is where the world first comes in I think, @katushacycling are the probably and maybe unknowingly the world’s first elite level sports team to have 2 Haemophiliacs on board. Sean, like me, has severe Haemophilia A, also like me a slightly dodgy ankle kept in check by regular s&c work. But more crucially both of us living the best life without letting Haemophilia define us or get in the way one bit. • Sean will be at the TDF, I’m still yet to find out but it’ll be epic for the both of us regardless!! • If you need help with Haemophilia or any bleeding disorders, @littlebleeders_uk is us and we have a great support network. ♥️

Today is World Haemophilia Day// What is Haemophilia/Hemophilia? *Hemophilia is a rare condition in which the blood does not clot properly. It mostly affects men. People with hemophilia lack a protein called a clotting factor, which works with platelets to stop bleeding at the site of an injury. This means the person tends to bleed for a longer time after an injury, and they are more susceptible to internal bleeding. This bleeding can be fatal if it occurs within a vital organ such as the brain. • //CAUSES; In hemophilia, the blood does not clot as it should. Hemophilia is normally an inherited disorder. A person is born with it. It happens because of a defect in one of the clotting factor genes on the X chromosome. Hemophilia tends to occur in males, since the gene can be passed from mother to son. • Males typically lack a second X chromosome so they are unable to make up for the defective gene. Most females have XX sex chromosomes while most males have XY sex chromosomes. Females may be carriers of hemophilia, but they are unlikely to have the disorder. For a girl to have hemophilia, she must have the abnormal gene on both of her X chromosomes, and this is very rare. • Sometimes, hemophilia is acquired because of a spontaneous genetic mutation. The disorder can also develop if the body forms antibodies to clotting factors in the blood that then stop the clotting factors from working. • //TYPES; There are two major types of hemophilia, type A and type B. In hemophilia A, there is a lack of clotting factor VIII. In hemophilia B, also known as "Christmas disease," the person lacks clotting factor IX. • Hemophilia occurs in around 1 in every 20,000 males born worldwide. Both A and B can be mild, moderate, or severe, depending on the amount of clotting factor that is in the blood. The painting speculates about the fate of Alexei Nikolaevich, Tsarevich of Russia, after the 17th July night. The painting was based on the rumors that Alexei had survived and escaped to Siberia, where he would had lived until his death in the 1940s. _______ Alexei Nikolaevich is depicted here as he was a 15-16 year old boy, behind a wood fence, symbol of his imprisionment, and a white puppy. Alexei is holding a marguerite and is surrounded by flowers, symbols of renaissance, in contrast with the bloody scene of the right and left side.
