Let’s talk about BREAKFAST!
These days for breakfast, bagels are my go-to. But every once in a while, I’ll whip up a delicious bowl of oats like this one, when I’m feeling ambitious.
Either way, I always make sure that my breakfasts are BIG & FILLING & BALANCED because that sets the tone for my hunger the rest of the day.
For example, if I were to just eat an egg white omelette with vegetables, that would leave me ravenous & hungry for the rest of the day because the meal was low carb, low fat, and LOW ENERGY.
It would not be a sustainable option for me.
But, if I focus on eating all three macronutrients (carbs, protein, fats) in plentiful quantities, and I choose to give my body lots of energy (like in my oatmeal bowl pictured above), I’ll be vibrant & energetic until lunch.
It is so common in our society to think we are starting our day “on track” if we eat a breakfast with the sole purpose of restriction (aka, the egg white & veggie omelette).
But, in reality, we are doing our physical bodies & mental well-being such a disservice.
Feeling ravenous around food lately?
Examine your breakfast habits.
If you are restricting certain macronutrients, restricting energy (calories), restricting portions, or simply not eating breakfast at all —> take this as a sign.
Give your body enough food today.
Oatmeal bowl deets: oats cooked in almond milk + cinnamon + pb powder. Toppings include banana + strawberries + frozen raspberries + frozen blueberries + chia seeds (a bunch are hidden) + dark chocolate + almond butter
Why organic? I always recommend choosing organic when possible for the above mentioned reasons and many, many more. Your dollar is a vote, the more people who buy organic produce, the higher the demand, resulting in lower prices and accessibility to more people! If organic is not an option for you right now next week I will be sharing some tips about making the healthiest conventional produce choices. The fruits and veggies I will recommend have been tested and contain the least amount of pesticides.

Osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis. It is referred to as degenerative joint disease or “wear and tear” arthritis. It typically occurs in the hands, hips, and knees.
Here are 4 ways you can manage osteoarthritis and improve your quality of life:
.
- Get physically active: Experts recommend that adults engage in 150 minutes per week of moderate physical activity, or 30 minutes a day for 5 days. Moderate, low impact activities that are recommended include walking, swimming, or biking.
- Get involved in physical activity programs: Participation in physical activity programs can help reduce pain and disability related to arthritis and improve mood and the ability to move.
- Join a self-management education class: Understand how arthritis affects your life and increases confidence in controlling your symptoms and living well.
- Lose weight: Losing weight reduces pressure on joints, particularly weight-bearing joints like the hips and knees. Reaching or maintaining a healthy weight can relieve pain, improve function, and slow down the progression of osteoarthritis.

You want more joy, more happiness, more pleasure in your life. Who doesn’t? We can do things to expand our capacity to feel these emotions, but there’s a catch.
Your ability to feel pleasure is directly proportionate to your ability to feel anything. What you allow yourself to feel in ALL emotions dictates your capacity for pleasure. Your ability to feel rage or grief is proportionate to your ability to feel joy. You can’t selectively sensitize yourself.
Think about an intense depression where you can’t access joy...you’re not feeling much of anything. You’re shut down. It feels like being numb. In contrast, deep grief is often interrupted by moments of profound joy or gratitude.
In Chinese medicine this is the difference between good flow of Qi (energy) and stagnation. When we resist emotions we create stagnation and over time this leads to depression. Depression is disconnection from self; stagnant energy that creates blocks in our ability to feel.
I’ve spent time at both extremes— being very shut down and being incredibly open. At my most open, I was feeling a lot but I didn’t have a container for it. It felt messy and destructive. I was being dragged by my emotions and dumping them onto everyone around me. I knew it wasn’t working, so I shut down and tried not to feel. Not coincidentally, many years of chronic illness followed. Through meditation, acupuncture, therapy, and other embodiment practices I’ve created an emotional container for myself and have been opening back up to feeling deeply again. This meant months of feeling years worth of grief, rage, anxiety, and everything else I repressed. But it’s worth it. Some fun side effects: moments of overwhelming gratitude, waves of spontaneous joy, best sex of my life, and an acute awareness of when I’m feeling disconnected so I can do something about it. It’s natural to want to protect yourself from pain, but you’re doing it at the expense of pleasure.
