We had 5 hours on Hirta so made the fairly steep slog up Conachair, the highest sea cliffs in the UK. This is looking down into Village bay as a hail storm hurtles in from the Atlantic. Any shower could be seen miles out and didn’t last long as it blew straight over. (St Kilda is the site of the highest recorded wind speeds in Britain)

The weathered and eery Main Street on Hirta. The end on buildings were built in the 1830s and were traditional black houses and originally had been thatched. After a storm caused severe damage the face on buildings were built with slate roofs in 1860s. There were 16 new buildings, the National Trust have redeveloped around 5 houses the rest are empty shells.

The View from the Kirk window in Village Bay where the St Kildans spent a large amount of time! The interior is very understated in keeping with th Free Church style but the Pulpit is the largest in the Hebrides!
