Homeschool mistake saga "Do you make your kids do an abundance of extra-curricular activities because you want to prove that homeschooling your kids was a good decision?" This question took me aback. For a moment I fell into a bout of anxious self-examination. I didn't like the fact that I was always felt like I was in a hurry to get somewhere or accomplish things. Eventually, my youngest daughter got frustrated (Thank you Lord) this was a wake up call for me. For a few years my daughter has played violin everyday and ballet(5 times a week 4 to 5 hours per day). Like me, my daughter didn’t enjoy the continual hurry from one place to another. Admittedly, one of the benefits of home education is that kids do have more time to pursue their favorite interests. Eventually, she got frustrated and it became a wake up call for me. Making me question how many activities can my kids be involved in before it becomes too stressful for the entire family? Where should we draw the line? No matter how flexible homeschooling is over-scheduled children is a no no!!. ♀️ My daughter had a heart to heart talk to me about this and expressed that even though she liked violin, she just wanted to focus on ballet. This made me realise I needed to purposely put "margins". (Protecting our margins.) Don't get me wrong we highly encourage our kids to stick with things when they’ve committed to them, but I must have guides in place before I ever begin scheduling their activities. As a parent, I must set limits ahead of time & help them to prioritize their interests. I know that I am not alone in my struggle with this. I certainly don't have all the answers, ♀️but I am prayerfully seeking the best for my family. Extracurricular activities serve a useful purpose for us, but it is not healthy for kids to experience the stress of becoming involved in too many of them.♀️ Sometimes our kids just want be at home and chill with us & that’s Okay!!! Disclaimer: Please take note I'm just sharing my personal experience. ❤️With the rainy season that we’re experiencing right now I was reminded of another benefit of Homeschooling. In my own experience my kids rarely got sick when we decided to homeschool them. Before, during this time of the year, my eldest daughter who was in a conventional school at that time always caught severe allergic reactions due to this type of weather. Fortunately, when she started homeschooling her immune system got stronger. A survey was done in the States between the healths of homeschoolers and conventional school kids. They noticed that because of less exposure in a big crowd homeschoolers were less likely to get sick. They also slept better because they didn't have to deprive themselves of sleep just to get to school. The eating habits of the two groups were also surveyed during their lunch time. Conventional-schooled children ate a lot more calories, sodium, and sugar at lunch than the homeschooled children did. Since, lunch is the most likely meal to be eaten at school, the take-home message here is that the conventional-schooled children are not being fed improperly by their parents. They are being fed improperly by their school. Parents are significantly better care givers for their children than any canteen in school. Homeschooled children are fed every meal by people who love them and want the very best for them. In addition, they are probably under less daily stress as well becuase of the benefit of honoring the pacing of the child's strength, readiness and weaknesses in their study habits. Sleeping , eating healthy food is one of the greatest gifts we can give our kids.

When My Friend Cries ❤️
It's coming out in 2 weeks!!! Here's a sneak peek.
In 'When My Friend Cries,' Pablo's classmates end up laughing at him and calling him names. This story shows the difference between choosing to be a quiet bystander and choosing to be a true friend who speaks up and does the right thing.

So proud of these little teammates of ours! Ate Zia passed her assessment today & she's moving up to Grade 1 on September! To be honest, we don't know how we're making it through each day. At mas lalong we don't know how we passed our first year of homeschooling. Okay, confession time! We went to the assessment with our hearts prepared in case the teacher tells us that we would have to repeat Kinder afterwards coz we really feel like we didn't do enough in terms of teaching Ate Zia her subjects. And that's why we can't help but praise God bec Zia is an advanced learner based on what she showed during the assessment. Wow! The good thing abt homeschooling is that as facilitators & as parents, we also get to learn in the process. Allow us to share some of our learnings to you.
1. Time is our most important asset. We're sure we did not do enough in teaching Zia all her subjects but we're also sure we gave her & her siblings the biggest portion of our time as their parents. While celebrating over lunch earlier, we remembered there were lots of days when Zia was so eager to learn but we really couldn't sit down with her 100%. However, we were there when she was asking us about a lot of stuff she wanted to know and we answered her questions the best way we could.
2. Homeschooling is a teamwork. After we congratulated Zia, we also congratulated Zela. We told her she did a great job as a teammate to her ate. We believe she played a big role for Ate Zia to also push herself & learn lessons or subjects in ways or processes only her young mind can comprehend - processes that she learned while managing the way she deals with her siblings Zela and Zed.
3. God's grace, God's grace, God's grace! At the end of the day, it's really abt God's grace. No matter how intentional we are as parents, life is just so demanding and we sometimes catch ourselves almost breaking apart trying to be the best of everything that we need to be for our kids and for each other. But God's grace is what sustained us and it's what's going to sustain us until we reach our dreams as a family. #TheClingyFam #homeschooling #homeschoolingfamily #homeschoolingph
Zoe just turned 4 years old last month and people always ask us, "Do you go to school already?" "Pumapasok ka na?" "Saan ka pumapasok?"
And we always answer "No" or "Not yet".
Then they will always tell me "Why? She's 4 already and she should be in school."
In this generation where almost all kids go to school at a very young age. Some even go to school at 2 years old.
I chose a DIFFERENT PARADIGM for Zoe. I will share more about it soon on my blog.
During my time, as a kid, I used to be pressured. I always push myself to excel in class. And I don’t want Zoe to experience the same thing. I don’t want to rush her. I just want her to enjoy her childhood and make the most of out it. Most of all, I want to build her character first before academics.
Zoe not going to school at the age of 4 years old means she’s being left behind as everyone else thinks of. But NO. Let me share a little story.
Last week, we had a mom and me date. We went to a bookstore and I bought her a pad paper. Zoe can already write since she’s 3 years old. But it’s her first time to write in a pad paper with blue and red lines.
To my surprise, she got very nice penmanship already and can write her full name.
So is Zoe left behind already? Is it a bad decision to not send her to school?
What I want to point out is that whatever parenting decision you’ll make. People will always have something to say. Don’t mind them. Just do your thing mama!
