Our first day of homeschool 2019 is in the books! Not gonna lie, it was a little bumpy at times today trying to get into a new rhythm. It takes us a good week each year to figure out what subject to do when, what each child should be doing throughout the day, and how to split me into 4 different pieces whenever possible. It all worked out, and the kids and I had a lot of fun. I don’t take the blessing of homeschool lightly, and I’m so thankful I can share our journey with all of you. Jenna @whiteshantyathome has some really encouraging posts in her stories today for those of you who homeschool or have ever considered homeschool. You are all more than capable of teaching your children at home, if that’s how the Lord leads, and you’ll never regret it for a moment. ❤️ #hideandseekfarm #homeschoolroom #homesweethomeschool #homeschooliscool
I’m sure there are some adults that can relate to this. How can this post help tut better relate to kids with adhd? Tag a friend. Nehemiah will be 7 in August. This boy is so full of energy and also has a calm and gentleness about him too.
•
We’ve really been working on reading this year. Neo wants to learn how to read but it’s super hard for him and he gets frustrated easily. So, I haven’t pushed him. We have taken it slowly.
•
I mean, I’ve been frustrated myself sometimes while teaching him but I’m trying to focus on having patience with him as he grasps sounds and combinations and all the concepts of learning how to read. It doesn’t come easy for him.
•
And instead of freaking out that we have an almost 7 year old who can’t read yet, I’m not comparing. I’m not holding him to the standards of others but gracefully ushering him into the understanding of reading. Challenging him when necessary and offerning hope and gentleness when it gets hard for him.
•
It doesn’t come as easy for him as it did for his big sisters. It’s complicated and fuzzy for his mind but it’s so exciting when he absorbs something and reads some words. We high five and hug and cheer. He’s getting there slowly. Very slowly. And we are so good with our pace.
•
So, this is an encouragement today that your timeline for the goals and achievements and dreams in your life will look different than everyone else’s. It’s okay if it’s postponed or extended because it’s all part of your story! Your pace has a purpose. Be gentle with yourself, challenge yourself and bloom when your time comes. ☺️

Every day, Sam complains when we sit down to #homeschool. And I’m like “girl... you are sitting on your comfy couch in comfy pajamas with a laid-back morning and hanging out with your family. We will do some lessons for an hour or two and then you have the entire day to play. You COULD be waking up at the buttcrack of dawn and rushing all morning to get out the door and be away from all of us until it’s dark out and just do schoolwork for 8 hours, if you prefer.”
•
And then she’s like .
•
Our kids LOVE being home so much. They love our chill schedule and lots of time to play and learn and grow at home. They’ve got it good and sometimes (and in Sam’s case, every day) I need to remind them of what a beautiful opportunity we have in #homeschooling and to have TIME as such a sweet gift in life.
•
Cool thing is that I’ve started to see a shift in Sam’s attitude. Last night at the dinner table, we were going around and sharing our highs and lows of the day. And Sammy said that surprisingly, her school lessons were one of her highs of the day. I smiled and told her that I loved hearing that and I think it could have to do with her own attitude and how she chose to approach her learning. And she giggled and responded with, “Okay mom, don’t take it too far now.”

Today, we are going to take it slow, enjoy one another’s company, be intentional in our thoughts, words and actions and praise God for this gift of life.
A lot of you will think I’m crazy, but we start up homeschool again on July 22. We’ve been off since May 23, so we’re already on our 7th week of summer vacation. We like to homeschool year-round. Our schedule is 6 weeks on, 1 week off, vacation Thanksgiving through New Year’s Day, and Memorial Day through the end of July. We’ll still have plenty of time for swimming and other activities, since homeschool only takes 3-4 hours a day. The kids are already bored and fighting ALL. THE. TIME!!! That’s the beauty of homeschool. You can set your own schedule and do what works best for your family. Let me know in the comments what your school schedule is. And head to my stories to see my latest review of @thegoodandthebeautiful language arts. ❤️ #hideandseekfarm #homeschoolroom #homesweethomeschool
This year has been rolling with fury!
