hey pals, it’s DAY 5 of #YangToYinForSpring ☯
here we have ourselves a juicy FORWARD FOLD
say whaaaat… we’re half way through already!? For today I’ve opted for a Pyramid Variation. I’m kind of reminding myself of a peacock in this pose and I’m cool with that, so I’m going to call this one the Puffed Peacock, or PP for short. If you also want to practice looking like a peacock, then the PP is the one for you
forward folds open the entire backside of the body at once - from heels to calves, to hamstrings to hips, and all along the entire spine through to the tips of your fingers - so it’s important to prepare the body. You don’t want to go SMACK BANG into this one, even if you are just dying to feel the fluttery fabulousness of the PP (which I’m sure you are )
STEPS: when you’re nice and warm, find your regular Pyramid pose. Starting with the hands on the floor (or on blocks), keep the hips squared, lengthen the spine, roll the shoulders back, tuck the ribs in, and breeeeaaathe. If you’re feeling secure in this position, have a go at bending the back-leg so that the knee joins with the knee of the front-leg. Later, you can start to incorporate your core strength more by lifting your hands off the floor.
HONOUR YOUR BODY! ✨the Pyramid Variation I have gone for here is quite intense on the front knee, so please be KIND to yourself. I personally would much rather see a picture of you doing a beautiful, safely executed Pyramid than forcing yourself into a place your body doesn’t want to go. Remember, Yoga is all about being content with where you are now. You’re awesome as YOU ARE. Honour that please (and honour your lovely knees ❤️)

Today we have headstand with or without a FeetUp. When I have new students who want to learn sirsasana or inversions in general I always make them try the FeetUp first, it's totally safe and same fun ♀️♂️
What do you think of headstand? For me it's the queen of all inversions, it's my favorite, the more challenging the better, but I love it because when I practice it I feel like I'm more aware and present. It's my favorite asana to meditate.
Again if you're struggling with headstand, be patient, it will come, we all have to start somewhere

Today we move into our YIN section
If you’re new to this style of yoga, have a wee read to get the most benefit out of the next 5 days & add a new depth to your practice with passive poses♥️ Today’s pose is DRAGONFLY
In yin we have a target area that the pose stimulates. Each day we will list the target area for you TARGET AREA for dragonfly:
Primary- adductors (inner thighs)
Secondary- Erector Spinae (spinal muscles) ••• General guidelines for practising YIN •••
✨Begin in a seated meditation & take a few minutes to breathe, clear your mind & find stillness. Use a block, bolster or cushion under your bum to find comfort with a neutral pelvis.
✨Set your timer for 3-5 minutes
✨Come into the pose & ensure you can feel stimulation in the target area
✨If you can’t feel stimulation then use props. Yin is ALL about props. Or find another similar pose that stimulates the target area
✨Start the timer & completely relax as many areas of the body as you can.
✨Focus on breathing into the belly & on the target area
✨When the mind wanders, bring it back to previous step
✨After the timer move slowly into your rebound (savasana)
✨Stay for approx 2 mins & focus entirely on the effects happening in the body
✨Come out slowly & repeat with another pose or end with stillness & Meditation

F E E L I N G // It’s dawned on me that we spend much time taking our feelings for granted—fighting, suppressing, numbing our emotions as if they’re not supposed to exist.
We burry them in cracks, covering them with layers of self-doubt and fear and “I’m not good enough,” pushing ourselves deeper and deeper in to the darkness of separation and disconnect.
Anything to not see. Anything to not feel.
We find every excuse as for why we cannot fall harder, go deeper, open wider.
Just to please the part of ourselves that says, “No, stay safe. Don’t go into the unknown.” But there is an artistic expression of emotion and sensation deep beneath the layers of “keeping it all together” waiting to be acknowledged.
She wishes to be fully embodied — in breathe, movement, and soul.
She wishes to have her currents run through your veins, electrifying your body with that one thing we fear the most: F E E L I N G.
Because when we finally F E E L, we can finally H E A L. We can finally open to the spaces within that hold our true power.
And we finally know what it’s like to be the full expression of human being-ness: the happy and sad, dark and light, truth and story.
