On Friday I was 42 weeks pregnant...I'm 'term + 16' now, as the midwives like to call it. They like you to be induced at 'term + 10'...even this language makes you feel like you're much further over than you should be, when you're only actually considered medically overdue once you pass 42 weeks. I have told them I won't consider any form of medical induction until I am 43 weeks...and then I'll only 'consider' it. I feel incredible & healthy. I'm full of energy, sleeping well, no aches or pains. My bubba is dancing in there, especially mornings and evenings. They tend to be still during the day, probably because I'm so active. I am researching constantly, keeping myself as informed as possible, so the midwives trust my reasoning. The midwives have been great and are doing their best to ensure I have the birth I desire. Though they are slightly uncomfortable with us wanting such a hands off approach. We haven't listened to our babies heartbeat through a doppler, we have only let them listen through a pinnard. We turned down the 12 week scan and only went for the 20 week, as we wanted to be sure the placenta wasn't low lying as we are birthing at home. I have been told the risks of our approach every time I've sat with a midwife. If I hadn't have been researching I would have definitely been scared into an induction by now. But, the risks they speak of are so low, especially in a woman having such a healthy pregnancy. This approach isn't right for every woman, but for me this is exactly what I needed.
