C.ORBIFOLIA V2 - spectre or vampire? ⠀⠀ #Day30 - my last #inkbotanicals post in color. Some thoughts on this short coloring project: - It was really handy to have a few artworks/images grabbed from pinterest I could base my palette on. I'm not really great with color, so it was convenient to have some ready made color combos that I like I can work with. - Unlike how I imagined, coloring does not take only a couple of hours. Each pair I published was a whole day's worth of work. Do not underestimate the work of coloring. - Much of my time spent was on random swatching until the whole thing looks put together. So much confusion regarding balance, saturation, value... seriously, so much factors in play in color how do you even! Should have taken classes prior. - It's good sense to create 8-10 color combinations before you decide which to post. - As short breaks go, this did not feel like a short break. This week was equally strenuous as a regular pattern day. But still marching on... 70 days to go! :'( ⠀⠀ New trend starts next week. This is #Day22 of my #100DaysOfInkPatterns where I make ink prints and patterns daily for 100 days. The trend for Days 21-30 is Ink Botanicals. I'm using a technique I discovered to make seamless patterns on paper, hence the spinning squares. ⠀ "MAIDENHAIR FERN" - I just love the maidenhair fern's delicate, wispy appearance. But as delicate they are in form, so they are physiologically. I've tried growing maidenhair fern several times before but I never succeeded in keeping them alive. But that doesn't stop me from trying again and again, just to be able to see them everyday at home. ⠀ I tried playing with color today! I took some minimal blue hues, playing safe. I hope to work in layers someday to give my works dimension. "WHEATBIX" - I could almost feel the dry, scratchy texture of wheat breakfast cereal just by looking at this. This is #Day16 of my #100DaysOfInkPatterns where I make ink prints and patterns daily for 100 days. The theme for Days 11-20 is diamond tile patterns. ⠀⠀ I call this one "TURKEY SCUFFLE". See how it looks like it has feet, black feathers and beaks all over the place, like how it looks when cartoon characters get in a fight. Other interpretations are open, as usual. ⠀⠀ Today, I got really burned out from daily art-making. I've honestly made up to Day 25 of the challenge. There was so much energy at the start, but it's dwindling now. And all the amazing stuff on my feed from the creatives I follow don't help at all. My mediocrity is right up against my face, and I feel there's still so much to learn until I reach the point of satisfaction--if I ever reach it at all. ⠀⠀ And so to relieve stress, I went shopping today. I got plastic sleeves for my sketchbooks, a clearbook, and some China-made textile ink, which I hope would work well despite cheapness (Speedball was out of stock). The calligraphy pen -- flamboyant, antiquated, and cumbersome to use. Not exactly my kind of pen. But since I'm doing an ink-centered #100dayproject and because I've had this pen lying around unused for years, I figured I'd give it a chance. I made some haphazard scribble patterns on my memo squares using black stamp pad ink. I completed nine patterns in one scribble session and will post finalized patterns in the subsequent days.
