Good evening Gothamites and I hope you all had a spectacular Sunday! Thank you all who wished me a bat-tastic and happy birthday today, I'm very grateful for your good wishes, I had the most wonderful day with my family and friends. What I love about my birthday is that I share it with one of the greats and the first Joker was ever introduced to when I was young, and that is Cesar Romero! Born in 1907 on this day, February 15th (he passed at the age of 86 in 1994), Romero portrayed the 1966 Batman television show incarnation of the Joker. Perhaps what he is well known for off the small screen is rather (in)famously refusing to shave his mustache for the role, even though the character has always been clean-shaven in the comics. As a result, the makeup that Romero wore to imitate the Joker's chalk-white skin tone was applied directly over the mustache, leaving it partially visible during filming. The 1966 Batman series' incarnation of the Joker marked the first time that the character was depicted in non-comics media, setting a standard for future depictions of the Clown Prince of Crime. As a reoccurring villain on the show alongside Adam West and Burt Ward, Romero's seemingly-boundless energy, shrieking laugh, and many creative deathtraps left a powerful impression on audiences at the time, and continues to be remembered fondly even today, decades after the series had ended.
