If you only allow healthy foods in your home you are more likely to eat healthy. As simple as that. Yes you can always go out and pick up something but that takes more effort and money when you know there is food at home. Especially if they are perishable foods. Having a fridge stocked with fruits and veggies is not only healthy but a privilege to have access to such foods. For some, the nearest “grocery store” is a gas station. So if you have the privilege of being able to go to a local grocery store and purchase organic fruits and veggies why not take advantage of it? Be your best you, I guarantee it’s worth it. On that note, I am now on day 5 of my 10 day juice cleanse and I am feeling fantastic. 10 days will be my longest fast but I definitely have no intentions of quitting.

To juice is to abandon our primal necessity to consume and digest solid food. And whilst pioneers of the juicing fad claim to recognize the unsustainable nature of their diet, their proposed advantages can be SHIT down immediately by virtue of its lack of sustainability. (See what I did there).

Though alcohol consumption offers no nutritional advantages, it’s moderate inclusion is allowed. Though a dry January is based on excessive festive drinking, one would be better placed to assess their level of consumption across a longer timeframe than 31 days. Then there will be realization that moderate intake still supports most nutritional goals. Furthermore, that one is less likely to binge drink once their self imposed ban is complete. Note - if this alcohol ban is for charity then this worthwhile practice. -

And veganuary. This one has been exceptionally popular in 2019. But whilst many have used it as an explorative way to test their dietary preferences and limits, 31 days and a particular month of the year cannot define one’s moral and environmental beliefs. Furthermore, those who return to consuming animal products thereafter become eternal anti-christ’s to Vegans who whole-heartedly and passionately believe in veganism all year round. For those adopting veganuary as a categorical way to improve health, they are misinformed. -

But perhaps the most heroic nutritional act of all in January, is to be at one with our own nutritional reality. To honestly assess and realise our nutritional shortcomings and take affirmative, but sustainable action to remedy them. Maybe then, by February 1, we will avoid unnecessary misery, include all food/drinks we enjoy and be 31 days closer to our goal.
