I feel... invigorated, alive, new portals of creativity opening within me. I need... space to hear and honor my inner whispers. I forgive... myself for not listening to my intuition earlier this week. I celebrate being able to travel! This week I am in Singapore . I release... old stories about what my work should look like. I trust... where I’m being guided.

Meal time struggles. Everything from A-Z is hurried and stressed. Groceries take twice as long with a baby in tow. Meal prep becomes a dance between nursing while cooking, or cooking while listening to parenting books, or... take out #guilty. At dinner, I would shovel a cold meal into my mouth in 3.7 minutes? Seconds! Then I rush to clean up and never give it a second thought.
At some point along my motherhood journey I stopped enjoying food. I had built a habit of rushing through meals even when I could/can afford the time.
As Sawyer got older, cold meals became a thing of the past, but dinner time continued to be stressful. In trying to respect Sawyer’s autonomy over his body and his full-belly-feeling, I still fight my thoughts, “did he eat enough?”, or “has he had enough veggies today?”, or “oh no, what if he gets HANGRY later”, or “what if he won’t nap without a full belly“, or, or, or…. It’s. So. Stressful. Not all the time, but when it is, IT IS.
I needed to make a change. In one of my classes we were taught Mindful Eating. Have you heard of this?
There are 8 Steps that an article at Harvard Health has highlighted on how to Mindfully eat. Here is where I’m at with it.
1. Groceries. Last summer I found a way to streamline the way I plan and buy groceries. I use an app called Paprika. It’s not free, however it’s worth every penny to me. I’ve tried a few of the free ones but honestly the others don’t compare. You can either put in your own recipes, or you can import an existing one from any website with just a click. It takes a couple hours to get everything set up, but those couple of hours goes a long way into your meal planning for the rest of the season/year. While shopping, I also ask Sawyer to help pick the fruit. I ask him to smell it, look for bruising, and I also offer him choices of what...

Walking through a store (@target, obviously) and finding a game like this one makes me excited that talking and playing about feelings is becoming so commonplace in our kids’ world. Social/emotional learning is extremely important and a game like this makes it fun and normalizes kids talking about their feelings.
