Perhaps what I love most about Steadicam is that I can literally hold the director’s vision in my hands. Spring 2019 Continuing Project Finalist: @odetteengland . LOVE NOTES . “Love notes and photographs share common traits. A love note is a romantic way to show one’s feelings via language. A photograph can serve the same purpose. I am intrigued by a lack of generalization between how men and women convey affection through language. I am seduced by the words of authorJohn Masters: 'Fold the letter carefully away...Fold that whole world away, and passion and love, so that they couldn't be hurt; yet of course they were...’. . This project re-initiates and re-frames the physicality and fragility of past relationships. Between my parents and me; the land and lens; the male gaze and mine. Using stories and myths as lures, I photograph familial land using film, fold the negatives, and send them to my parents to ‘read’. They refold and return them to me, together with their own text. The negative – materially and emotionally – becomes part of the photograph’s story. What has been folded and cracked dominates the picture. The image is the background, the damage now the foreground.”
