Which option would you choose? ✂️ @shannelmariano #beautylaunchpad
•
Goal: Sofia wanted long layers, remove a bit of weight & keep her perimeter thick.
____________________
Option 1: So much weight would be removed from the bottom half & the ends would be thin. Why? Because the bottom half is shorter on top & longer in the bottom. To top half will be heavy & would leave a weight line. Why? Because the top half is shorter on the bottom & longer on top.

Option 2: A lot of weight removed, really short layers & thin ends. Why? Because it’s really short on top & gradually gets really long toward the bottom.
____________________
Option 3: The top half will have long layers & some weight removed. Why? Because the top half is shorter on top (but not super short) and longer on the bottom. The bottom half will give her a thick perimeter. Why? Because all the hair on the bottom half fall to one point.

There are sooo many more options but I chose option 3–not because the others were wrong or ugly. I didn’t pick option 3 because it is the “right” way to layer either. I picked it because it was what was going to address what Sofia wanted.

“Short hair pushes long hair”. That’s really all it is. Before you cut hair, take the time to look at it. Ask yourself, what will end up being short & what will end up being long? If it’s not you want it to be then keep trying something else until the short hair is where it needs to be and the long hair is where it needs to be.

I never used to look at the hair. I’d get so overwhelmed & overthink all the haircut tutorials & demos I’ve memorized in my mind.

Understanding “short hair pushes long hair” really helped me. But what really helped me was learning to believe in myself enough to actually look at the hair and try to figure things myself. I didn’t always figure it out and that’s when I’d find help. But no matter what, I started gave myself a chance to figure it out first.

Easiest Face Framing Layers!
.
Don't you love when your model is drop dead gorgeous?
.
Here is my go-to method for Fast and Easy face framing layers! Great to add interest to long hair, or to give that change to a haircut while preserving length! Cut using @hanzonation Shears and @framar Sectioning Clips! Styled with @redken Wind Blown 05 for an airy finish. Do you want to see more hot tip videos on cutting long hair?
Weave + Slice
This technique is ideal for guests desiring visible separation and additional mobility in their haircut! Weave highlights corresponding to the desired amount of texture, then half close/half open your shear diagonally down towards the length to cut the weaved hair. A hot tip is to Overdirect the hair away from it's natural falling position to create even more movement in your end result!
Before and after - loving this transformation! Like and save to show to your stylist at your next appointment.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Weave+Back Cut
Try starting this technique around the middle of the hair section being cut! Weave highlights corresponding to the desired amount of texture, then half close your shear as you push the hair back towards the scalp. Repeat this back and forth motion until you have cut the section! The result is seamless texture that adds support to shorter haircuts!
Pinch Slice
Add visual separation and interesting dimension to short hair! Use this technique when diffusing a hard line in a haircut to achieve a softer, pliable end result. Shear should be positioned parallel to the hair section. Begin cutting about 2/3 of the way down the hair strand. Half open/half close your shear down to the end lengths of the hair. Enjoy all the satisfying texture.
