So far this year my life has been completely overtaken with Ironman training. My days are consumed with planning whether to cycle ‍♀️, swim ‍♀️ or run ‍♀️, and the days I don’t train are filled with guilt and are ultimately wasted wondering if I should have trained or not. So going home to Shetland, albeit for a very sad occasion, was such a welcome break from the panic and stress, and I couldn’t have been happier than at this moment walking on Bains Beach listening to the sea. I’ve missed my outdoor pursuits, my paddle boarding ‍♀️, my hill walking , my camping and bike packing ‍♀️ and I cannot wait to get back into it after this pesky Ironman is done! As it all defines me as much as being a Shetlander does! Only 10 days to go til I get my life back! I do wonder if anyone will actually miss my training updates though? I’m not sure I will! xx

I'm always drawn to these guys whether it's in the Peaks or the Highlands and thought it'd be interesting to share some facts with you guys. The breed's history is quite complex! Herd books of the past recorded details of two different types of Highland cattle; however, it seems that decades of crossbreeding have faded the lines between the two, leaving only one official Highland cattle type Records also show that Highland is actually the oldest registered breed in the world, mostly due to the fact that their herd book predates all others The Highland breed is predominantly used for beef production, but can be milked on a small scale. Their milk has a high butterfat content, which some farmers may find appealing Interestingly, a group of Highland cattle is not called a herd, but a 'fold' instead Their coat is often the most discussed attribute of these cattle. When Highland cattle are mentioned, people often immediately think of their ginger-red coat. However, their colouring can vary between black, brindle, yellow and even white Their hair is always long, sometimes reaching about 13 inches, with a slight wave. Arderikie House looking very mysterious!⠀ ⠀ Did you know that Ardverikie House and its estate have been used as a location for filming. It is most recognisable as the Glenbogle estate in the BBC series Monarch of the Glen, that ran for seven seasons from 2000 to 2005. It was also used in the films Mrs Brown (1997), Salmon Fishing in the Yemen (2011), and Outlaw King (2018).
