#Harpril @lowpressureharpshare Day 2 Meet My Harp(s) ✨ Even though some of them are not with me anymore, I still think of them as my small family and look back fondly at everything with been through together... ✨ In the middle you will see my first ever harp, a 46 string model which used to be produced by Lunacharskogo Factory (which doesn’t exist anymore). I was 22 and still in the college when my Mum helped me buy it. It was the very best that we could afford, but it helped me earn the money to pay for itself eventually (and contribute to the music college fees later). Made in Soviet Russia, from Poland she travelled all over the Europe with me, and even got to play in Vienna Musikverein! ✨ On the left you see Camac Korrigan, a lever harp that I mostly use for teaching and for playing at functions at venues normally inaccessible with a pedal harp! Also - this is the only harp that I ever took on a plane with me! ✨ To the right is the harp that I have never even dreamt of welcoming in my life. I was never a “gold harp person”, but in a way it was more like the harp choose me rather than the other way round... It amazes me every day with its deep, powerful, yet sweet sound and brings much joy every time I play. Day 22 of #harpril: Teachers...and a little background on my harp journey. Lois Colin (left), Ruth Hunter (center), Elizabeth Hainen (right). . I started harp lessons with Lois in Larchmont, NY when I was 16 years old. I was always fascinated with Lois’ harp stories of playing on cruises and traveling the world. She helped me prepare for college auditions after only having played harp for 1 year. I ended up going to Penn State as a flute major and there was no harp program there. Penn State did have a beautiful Lyon & Healy Style 23 concert grand harp that had been dedicated from the Class of 1970(ish). I resurrected it from the organ room and start taking lessons with Ruth Hunter, who was playing with the orchestra and wind ensemble. I eventually changed my major instrument from flute to harp. Ruth and I are such hardcore harpists we even got harp pedal chart tattoos before I moved across the country (with @dani_bash too of course). . After Penn State, I got my Masters at Temple University and studied with Elizabeth Hainen. I never knew I could work so hard and grow so fast on harp in such a short period of time. My Masters recital was one of my proudest accomplishments and I appreciate Elizabeth for always pushing me. . No doubt these 3 harpists have shaped who I've become as a harpist. Last night I had a thought about Game of Thrones Season Finale...⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ During the most intense, dramatic moments, what was happening in the background? There was music...either the theme song, a variation of it, or ominous music. Imagine those same scenes being in complete silence. Ridiculous, right? I hope we can all take notice about where music is and how it enhances our life. I think since music is everywhere - in movies, in bars, in workout classes, in the car -people take it for granted and think it should be "free" even though there are real people behind the scenes making it happen.
