X-ray records were made as an act of defiance against censorship in cold war era Soviet Union, where they were used as an underground method of distributing prohibited music by Western, emigre and banned Russian musicians. This unforgettable cultural response to state censorship is now presented as a contemporary reminder of the not-so-distant past and collected in the "Library of Dangerous Thoughts" supporting freedom of thinking and countercultures. This initiative is a call to inspire citizens of the world into creating further pluralistic platforms and to support free education. . Massive Attack's "Mezzanine" is one of those albums you recognize instantly, either by sight or sound. You cant miss it. Whether you're ready to watch Hugh Laurie limp into a room in all of his stubbled glory, or watching Brad Pitt watch his mum's caravan devour its owner in a firey blaze... you've no doubt heard an element of this trip-hop masterpiece. Occasionally broken up with sounds of prog rock, the silky downtempo beats on this are each a textbook example of how to get the sounds of a song exactly right. This is all killer and no filler, as they say. Favorite song: "Angel"
