. Some people see a bookshop as an archive, or a shrine, or even a time machine. But I think a bookshop is like a map of the world. There are infinite paths you can take through it and none of them are right or wrong. Here in a bookshop we give readers landmarks to help them find their way, but every reader has to learn to set their compass. January was a pretty good month for reading. Definitely making up for my shortage of graphic novel reads last year! It really was a bit all over the place, with Pages & Co, The Binding and the first two Arc of a Scythe books living entirely up to the hype for me. Thunderhead was the undeniable best of the bunch; it went very differently to what I anticipated after the first book and it was all the better for it, maintaing an excellent and exciting plot whilst still building a beautiful and believable world. There was a few disappointments, including TWO abandoned reads already - Body Rides was terrible and I gave up half way through, where as I didn't even manage 50 pages of the H Jon Benjamin biog before deciding against going further - it just wasn't funny or interesting, with lots of attempts at humorous anecdotes which were far too brief, meaningless and empty. That's what I get for trying more NF It was wonderful rereading and getting up to date with Saga and Giant Days (I highly recommend both to any graphic novel fans), and I'll certainly be working may way back through a few more in my library this month. Can't decide whether to go for more Brian or something new next though. Anyway, I hope everyone had a great first month's reading. Piąty tom „Giant Days” to kolejny emocjonalny ocieplacz, który obowiązkowo powinien wylądować w Waszej kolekcji. Jest zabawny, energicznie napisany i zapowiada ciekawe historie w przyszłości. Wciąż czyta się to jak współczesną odpowiedź na „Przyjaciół”. Ale to tylko dodatkowa zaleta. "Giants”, to oprócz wybuchowej fabuły opowieść o przyjaźni wystawionej na próbę w obliczu bezlitosnych praw rządzących nowym obrazem świata. Są tu wielkie emocje,  dużo goryczy i nieuniknione konfrontacje. Przechodzi się przez tą prostą historię błyskawicznie, bo nie ma też tu jakichś wielkich niespodzianek, raczej dobrze znane, popkulturowe terytorium z przewidywalnymi schematami. Podanymi jednak na ostro, bez upiększeń, z solidnym morałem i chęcią na dalsze danie.
