#Elephant pose. This is the first time I’ve practiced this pose. I’m still working on strengthening my arms so this was very challenging. You can see the difference when I used a block. Definitely something I’d like to continue to work on.

Did you know that the most important part of the Ashtanga asana practice is staying with the breath?
Every pose (Asana) is held for 5 breaths and the way to get in and out of the poses are also marked linking an inhale or an exhale to every individual movement (vinyasas).
Every vinyasa has a number or count, and through the practice of staying with the breath through Asana practice we can enter into a meditation in movement.

It's not new news, but only through our mistakes, our falls, and our failures are we able to advance.

I can't tell you the amount of times that in my real practice, just like here, I've already jumped and I suddenly forget what side I'm doing.
Trying to change and correct my mini mindlapse in mid air has made my jumps all that much stronger.
.
And I can just keep taking a step further and further back to see all of it on a larger scale.
I can't tell you the amount of times that I've fallen out of jumps, overjumped, underjumped, lost the balance, maybe falling graciously or noisely crash down collapsing on the floor.
All of my mistakes, in reality, are what have taught me control, they've taught me to not be afraid, to trust; they're what have taught me to learn how to fall, and at the same time how to get back up and give it another go.
Nothing about a yoga practice has to be fancy or pretty, nothing about it will ever be perfect, but it is a space, a moment, where you can train your concentration, you can become in touch with every finer detail of your body and breath.
Your practice is a way to become in touch with your true self, and see just what you are really capable of.
Keep practicing. Never give up.
