❗Hello I haven't been posting recently about anything of significance BUT I need to share this: please go watch the link in my bio regarding the #MeatTheVictimsCanada action that took place in April. I will share here what I wrote on Facebook ➡️ I have watched this so many times now and still don't have the words to describe just how powerful it is. This action was one of the most intense and profound experiences I have had, and I wasn't even one of the activists who entered the barn. Many of my closest friends were those brave souls, willing to put everything on the line to expose the dark secrets of animal agriculture. Please watch, please listen to the story we are trying to share. Everyone has a right to know what is happening, especially locally. This video, put together by @nickschafer269 is absolutely incredible, I am in awe of it. It conveys all of the different emotions so accurately. Remember - legality does NOT equal morality. The farmer complained that most of our footage only came from one room of the farm. He told the media that they didn’t get an accurate representation of how he treats his animals. He, like many other farmers, claims that his animals are well cared for. So here are some of the other rooms at Excelsior Hog Farm. This is what we saw before walking into a giant room filled with pigs trapped in gestation crates. Pigs spending their whole lives not seeing the light of day until the day they are slaughtered. Babies fighting each other in tiny crates due to a complete lack of positive stimuli. An indescribably putrid stench. And a scene so dark and so ruthless that I find it impossible to believe anyone could claim these animals are well cared for. So here you go. THE F WORD. It's something that most vegans know all too well. It's something that animal activists know all too well. I know folks who talk about it, who have been impacted significantly by it. It was something I hadn't really had a significant personal experience with until yesterday. I'm talking Family. A member of my (blood) family told me yesterday, that I would have to sleep somewhere else when visiting. This sprouted from my request to not have any pig products (read: parts of corpses) in the house after #MeatTheVictims. This sprouted from said family member stating that request would not be feasible. So we find ourselves at a precipice, as many have before me, and I understand the weight of this word now more than ever. We find ourselves faced with a myriad of decisions, caught in between fiercely defending our ethical, deep-rooted beliefs, and knowing that very act could prevent us from seeing some of our most cherished loved ones. These are not easy decisions with obvious answers. I do believe a lot of it is sprouted from misunderstanding, and at the same time, an understanding, but the direct inability to face what they need to face. There is no perfect answer, solution or eloquent wrap to these words. There is an offering of new understanding for me, with a great challenge that many have faced. There is a deep level of respect for those that stay true to their beliefs, sometimes at great cost, and great loss. There is solidarity, in moments that initially appear isolating; however are moments that have been shared by many of you. There is the bittersweet reminder that at times, we are given always the opportunity to choose other families, make new ones, and expand the ones we were born into. And last but not least, there is the reassurance that when someone make you feel that everything you believe in is ridiculous, there are five times the humans out in the world who think you are a force to be reckoned with. MEAT THE VICTIMS IRELAND! * 50 Animal Rights Activists Occupy Pig Farm Exposing Animal Rights Violations * Approximately 50 vegan animal rights activists are currently occupying a pig facility in Raharney Westmeath. This Meat the Victims Ireland action aims to show the public the truth about standard animal use and abuse in Ireland. In addition, approximately 40 activists are holding a banner demonstration outside the facility in solidarity with the occupiers. * This occupation is not designed to expose “animal cruelty” on a particular farm, or to highlight a particularly “bad” farmer. The action shows routine animal rights violations that occur throughout the island of Ireland. * Government surveys suggest that there 137,5000 farms in Ireland, with as many as 2,500 “pig keepers” in the Republic, with something like 1,850 “active herds” of pigs in the country. * “Our aim is to disrupt legalised violence and murder against nonhumans animals,” said spokesperson Andy Anderson “The activists in this occupation are here to share the pigs’ story and to raise awareness for the violation of their rights as individuals,” he added. * Dr. Roger Yates, sociologist at UCD, is acting as media liaison for this event. “While animal use is widespread in Ireland, the public are often unaware of the details of their exploitation and general use.
