Today was a good day. After almost 2.5 weeks of daily practice I am really starting to see progress. My work up until this point has always remained on a tiny scale. Small cups, bowls, vases, whilst very cute, always kept me from believing I was anything more than a beginner Potter. I have in the past tried to throw larger mounds of clay, and after one or two failed attempts, threw in the towel and went back to my safety net of small, petite pieces. Today I weighed out 1.2kg, gave it a whirl, and boy did I surprise myself! I was completely overwhelmed with emotion, thinking to myself that this is the reason I’m here in Bali. Taking time out from the clutter I feel back home to give myself the space to practice, develop new skills, but above all, grow my confidence. The age old saying ‘practice makes perfect’ could not feel more true right now.
