Introducing the latest jaguar nagual. ~JagNag2.0~ I've been wanting to try a jaguar pelt for some time now & couldn't be happier w/ the final result. ~The Aztecas believed that the jaguar was of paramount importance in their symbolism & was associated with the most powerful forces. Warriors and Shamans would wear the Jaguar pelt in battle & spiritual ceremonies to guide them through their journey.
The Nahuas also used this animal as a subject to their tattoos & their personal animal totem. They believed that by having a given animal tattooed on their body, they could attain the guidance, knowledge & abilities of that particular nagual.~ Big ups to @headstash.sd1 for the quick scoop.

Work in progress, nearing completion on a cherry wood Puluc game board. Puluc is a more contemporary game played by descendants of the Mayans, the Kekchi people, in Guatemala’s northern region. It was first chronicled in the early 1800’s, though it is believed to be far older. The players use pieces to charge at one another from their home territories, the movement decided by casting sticks whose marked sides are counted - an ancient convention similar to dice. Pieces landing on the same space are captured, and captured pieces must then be carried back to the captor’s home. Additionally, captives can be liberated by fellow pieces landing on a space occupied by them, the captor then eliminated.
Artwork is thematic in nature for these boards - I use a mix of different mesoamerican styles from different cultures to achieve an immersive look. Admittedly, some of the hieroglyphs I use are simply numbers; others may be words, or months, etc. - I just arrange them in a fashion that is attractive for the players. I am always fascinated by ancient art and the lengths those people went through to exhibit it. Modern man has it easy by comparison; especially when it comes to the great stone carvers of many ancient cultures... Pre-ship pics will be posted next week! Have an awesome weekend - and please take a moment to remember our fallen heroes.

Treasure: El Castillo, Chichen Itza - 9th/12th century AD
Civilization: Maya

Family: @europe_treasures | @tesori_italiani⠀ ⠀ ⠀ El Castillo, also known as the Temple of Kukulcan, is a Mesoamerican step-pyramid that dominates the center of the Chichen Itza archaeological site in the Mexican state of Yucatán. Built by the pre-Columbian Maya civilization sometime between the 9th and 12th centuries AD, El Castillo served as a temple to the god Kukulkan, the Yucatec Maya Feathered Serpent deity closely related to the god Quetzalcoatl known to the Aztecs and other central Mexican cultures of the Postclassic period. The pyramid consists of a series of square terraces with stairways up each of the four sides to the temple on top. Sculptures of plumed serpents run down the sides of the northern balustrade. Around the spring and autumn equinoxes, the late afternoon sun strikes off the northwest corner of the pyramid and casts a series of triangular shadows against the northwest balustrade, creating the illusion of a feathered serpent "crawling" down the pyramid. ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ Share our Wonderful Heritage
