This past weekend in Washington they had 20 of their closet friends and family stay together in the most epic castle of an Airbnb to celebrate their union. We laughed and loved and got 5 hours of sleep the entire weekend and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Being let into people’s stories and lives like this - there’s nothing better for a documentary wedding photographer. I’m so honored to be part of intimate weddings like this ♥️
My pursuit of photography began in college (SCAD) when I changed my major from interior design to photo after taking one elective class....I fell in love with the ability to instantly create and capture beauty and direct the scene I had in my head.
In college, I had the freedom of documenting whatever subjects I wanted, but for me, it was always people and portraits. I loved storytelling and capturing portraits that were raw, emotional, and revealing of that person’s personality. I started shooting weddings in college, but found myself drawn to more documentary work, which led me to do some work overseas in Uganda while living there for two years. I interned for several non profits and created imagery to tell their stories. I taught a group of children photography with small 35 mm film cameras and made a book out of it, which was one of my most exciting seasons with photography....I was also able to travel to Iraq and document people and refugees under @carolguzy -a highly acclaimed news photographer and photojournalist, she won the Pulitzer Prize four times ✨. After my travel season ended, I felt a bit lost with photography for about five years.. I couldn’t seem to find a niche with documentary work back in the States and I wasn’t very excited about other work.
It wasn’t until I started reflecting on when I was most happy with my camera. I realized, it was when I was capturing people’s real stories, and when I was using film. (I used film in college all during my senior year), and I used film in Uganda while teaching the kids. So, I researched and also discovered that the photographers I loved most with wedding photography were all using film.
Sooo, now unfolds my story this year....I took the plunge and bought a Contax film camera and started shooting weddings again with intention. It has totally CHANGED my world and my love for weddings now is soaring!!! I’m so excited to grow in this skill and serve my couples by offering this beautiful gift of film. It truly captures the most authentic you. I just wanted to share a bit of my story :) thanks for reading if you’ve gotten this far!

Putting the finishing touches on the most magical wedding Montana has been the most influential artist and friend in my photog career - and I got to shoot her wedding. If you have ever met Montana, you know she radiates a kind of humble gratitude around you. She’s quick to love and make you laugh, and sees the best in everyone. She’s not intimidated or intimidating - only encourages the best of you. I never ever ever thought I would be doing wedding photography, and after Montana shot our wedding I realized what an amazing gift she had given us - by being more than a vendor but a friend, she captured everything we felt. She pushed me outside of my comfort zone and encouraged me SO much as I learned to do the same. I value this art form much more by her thought and care and example, and I caaaaaannot believe I got to capture her wedding. Montana and Israel are some of the wisest people we’ve ever met, and their intentionality for their art is the most inspiring. What a gift to document such a special day, to share in the little and big moments of someone’s celebration. Photography is more than a creative outlet, more than a job, and I can’t imagine my life without my camera. Thank you for always inspiring us photogs Montana, and thank you both for choosing me to document your day
