GAMBLING IN THE CLASSROOM?! Okay, okay, so maybe there’s no money involved, but this is one of my favourite games to play with my students, especially older ones. Here’s how you play; Divide your board into thirds, like in the picture. In the top left box is your total amount of money, in the top right box is your bet, and in the bottom box you write your answer. All students start with £100. I ask a question along the lines of “how do you say... in French” or “what’s the past tense of je joue”. The students write their answer in the bottom, and place a bet as to how confident they are that it’s right. For example, if I wasn’t sure I might bet £10, but if I was really certain, I might bet £50 or even £100. On the count of three they hold their boards up and I reveal the answer. If they’re right, the win the amount of money that they bet, if they’re wrong they lose it!
