In case you haven’t noticed, I’m a big fan of using visual cues and reminders to create new behaviours. And they are particularly useful for children. They can literally help us to stop, reassess a situation and choose a different response. They can help us learn new habits.

When we are first learning about mindfulness, it can be difficult to remember to actually do it. We are so used to going about our days on autopilot that it can be hard to stop and notice what’s going on around us and within us.
.
Using a mindfulness stone is a super helpful way to remind yourself to be more present and aware.
.
And there are so many ways to use them. Pop them in your child’s calm down space as a visual and tactile reminder to do their mindful breathing.
.
Leave them in a high traffic area of your home and take 5 deep breaths, or do a quick body scan every time you walk past it.
.
Leave one on your bedside table as a reminder to do a 5 minute meditation before you start your day or before you go to sleep for the night.
.
Keep one in your pocket, or your child’s pocket, and use it to ground yourself in the present when you begin to feel anxious or overwhelmed.
.
