@lolabuono is a PhD student at the Molecular Biotechnology center of Turin, Italy. Lola previously worked on cancer drugs that prevent tumors from growing their own blood vessels. She now focuses on stem cells and their application for regenerating damaged renal cells. Specifically, she focuses on the role of extracellular vesicles. Extracellular vesicles can transport a broad range of molecules such as proteins, lipids and nucleic acids (including microRNAs). Lola engineers the content of microRNAs in these biological carriers in order to increase their regenerative effect. This offers an innovative therapeutic delivery system because vesicles have the potential to safely deliver the molecules of interest to the target cells!.

@lolabuono è una studentessa di dottorato presso il Molecular Biotechnology Center di Torino, in Italia. Precedentemente ha lavorato su farmaci antitumorali che prevengono lo sviluppo di nuovi vasi sanguigni. Adesso si sta concentrando sulle cellule staminali e sulla loro applicazione nella rigenerazione di cellule renali. Nello specifico si concentra sul ruolo delle vescicole extracellulari. Le vescicole extracellulari possono trasportare una grande varietà di molecole, quali proteine, lipidi e acidi nucleici (inclusi i microRNA). Lola ingegnerizza il contenuto dei microRNA in questi trasportatori biologici al fine di aumentarne il loro potere pro-rigenerativo. Questo può offrire un sistema di trasporto terapeutico innovativo poiché le vescicole hanno il potere di trasportare le molecole di interesse alle cellule target!.
