After a few weeks in Monterey, here are three things we’ve learned about gay-friendliness in the area: . 1)There’s not really a “scene”. Most people will go to SF or San Jose for LGBT night life. . 2)Monterey people are friendly, but generally older and less-exposed to gay couples. Drop dead gorgeous. Nothing in the world rivals the beauty of Cypress Point (in my opinion and many others...). It is the jewel in the crown of the Monterey Peninsula in the USA and every time I visit I get shivers down my spine. Nowhere is the beauty more apparent than when you cross the famous 17 mile drive (pictured snaking its way through the course) to the 15th tee after playing the 14th hole. Playing it for the first time has your legs wobbling as you follow the path to the 15th tee (left of this shot). And there it is - one of the finest examples of par 3's in the world. A 9 iron or wedge on most days will suffice but take a minute (or two...) to digest the view and the setting. - For the last 9 days I’ve been dealing with sciatica pain and haven’t been able to do much besides stay in and paint. No gym, no walks, no work. I feel a bit frustrated from my routines being shelved and not having an outlet to exercise or get moving. - On the positive side, I’ve been painting non-stop. I finished a large circle piece of a foggy forest scene, a moody 12” Big Sur piece and then blocked this landscape in yesterday. I’m digging the blue green colors on this one! The lighting is pretty crap here but it’s much lighter in real life! -
