Mother Armenia - Yerevan, Armenia The current statue replaces a monumental statue of General Secretary Joseph Stalin that was created as a victory memorial for World War II. The original monument was completed and unveiled to the people on November 29, 1950. In spring 1962, the statue of Stalin was removed, with one soldier being killed and many injured during the process, and replaced by the Mother Armenia statue. "Mother Armenia" has a height of 22 metres, thus making the overall height of the monument 51 metres, including the pedestal.

В Ереване, как и во многих других городах постсоветского пространства на главном возвышении города стоит грозная Родина-мать с мечом. У матери-Армении довольно занимательная история. Изначально на ее месте стояла скульптура Сталину, но после его смерти, в 1962, году скульптуру демонтировали, а на ее месте решено было поставить мать-Армению. Ходят легенды, что под юбкой все еще сохранились ботинки Сталина Прообраз для своей будущей работы скульптор Ара Арутюнян встретил на рынке (или в магазине). 17-тилетняя Евгения Мурадян совершала покупки с матерью и сначала восприняла предложение попозировать за оскорбление, поэтому сразу ушла, не дав согласие. По причудливому стечению обстоятельств, скульптор оказался преподавателем брата девушки в колледже искусств. Поэтому в итоге Женя поняла, что Арутюняну можно доверять и стала позировать для статуи. Но это еще не конец истории. Ара и Женя поженились и всю жизнь прожили вместе. А воинственный вид статуи всегда напоминал девушке о силе характера и помогал бороться с жизненными трудностями.
