I didn’t wear makeup to the airport today because I knew my Mom would make me cry. I should be used to leaving. I left her for boot camp, I left her for Afghanistan a few times, I recently listened to her gut wrenching interview where I volunteered to deploy, and I’ve left her many times to climb around the world. I leave. That’s what I do. But this time is different. Yesterday was chaotic in #Everest prep. I was in between wanting to puke and wanting to pass out. And now it’s go time. Thanks Mom for being my right hand - I love you. And thanks to all of YOU for your support, love, and kind words. You keep me fighting and keep me calm — you remind me to handle even the worst of situations with grace. I have worked insanely hard to make all of this happen. I know that WE GOT THIS.

It’s been calm minus the random straggler of a Sherpa stopping to throw his bag down for a break, and giving me a wave through my tent door. I have enjoyed the peace and quiet, for sure, with my time being occupied by reading and writing — and random crunches so I don’t feel like a toad. However, it’s eerie to sit here alone as I write this and it be silent with the exception of falling rocks and the occasional avalanche.
