A rare sight - the empty Hintze Hall of the Natural History Museum. The skeleton seem hanging from the ceiling is a blue whale known as Hope; the 25 metre long creature is posed in the life like "diving lunge feeding" pose, thought to be the only one in the world displayed in this way. Lynette Williams did an amazing job preparing this American White Pelican specimen! Lynette is an Undergraduate Research Assistant at the Museum and one of our most experienced and advanced bird preparator interns. She recently won the @ucdavis Outstanding Senior Award for the Department of Wildlife, Fish, and Conservation Biology!
The Pelican was found dead in Klamath Basin in 2007 and donated to @usfws. Upon dissection, Lynette found 20 partially digested tui chub in its crop. Swipe left to see the finished bird. #womeninstem #scientistswhoselfie
