Music has the power to push your rider’s way past their comfort zone, while also decreasing the level of perceived exertion.

Studies have shown that music —> reduces feelings of fatigue, increases physiological arousal, improves motor coordination, and creates an enhanced relaxation response.
.
Music drives what we do. The music you chose should: motivate, inspire, evoke emotion, create energy, and have a strong beat that your riders are able to hear so that they can find the beat with their legs.
.
Remember, everything starts with music! It not only provides the heart beat to your class, but it is also one of the primary reasons a person will return to take your class.
.
Here are some good general tips when it comes to music!
.
➡️Let the MUSIC guide your class and your drills. Don’t force a drill onto a song. The song will tell you what drill to do to it.
.
➡️Don’t use a song just because you can do a particular drill to it. Take time to listen to the song and ask yourself, “does this song motivate me, inspire me, or evoke some type of emotion?” If it doesn’t, then don’t use it.
.
➡️Find music that YOU connect to. If YOU don’t feel it, your riders wont.
.
➡️Predominantly use music with a distinctive drop / chorus. This sets you up to cue the choreographed drill INTO the drop and into the chorus. There is variation here, and this doesn’t hold true for ALL songs.
.
➡️Don’t be afraid to mix genres of music within your playlist. A change in sound, from song to song, is enjoyable for the rider - but ALSO make sure your music flows.
.
➡️Take time to listen to music outside of preparing for your class. You hear music differently when you’re not in instructor mode.
.
➡️Share music with your fellow instructors. Do NOT be territorial. That is an unhealthy perspective on what we do. We are all in this together and sharing with each other gives you the opportunity to grow together!
