I made a song on Saturday and I wanna share it with you. Lately I’ve been accepting myself with less and less effort and I feel the creative energy flowing thru me. The words to this song came to me while I was freestyling to some beats in my room. I decided to write them down and go ahead and record it with my lil microphone in my room. The process of expressing myself and my emotions thru this avenue was truly cathartic and Healing. By allowing this song to flow into me and out of me and putting it down into a recording, I dismantled a limiting belief I’ve always had about myself that I am not good enough to make music or that I can’t make a good song. I’m telling you it’s in the power of our words. Our words create our worlds. I am effortlessly me and I flow with ease. Dreaming of This land again... The countdown begins.... less than three weeks until I am back in Oregon for @spiritweavers Last year was so potent and transformational for me. I had just come out of a breakup and felt lost and confused about life. Being surrounded by so many women reminded me of the power and strength I have inside to get through any hardship. One of the greatest lessons I learned was to include myself. I often exclude myself, isolate myself, and create myself as an “other.” This all changed last year. I practiced pretending like I knew everyone and was seeing them again for the first time in a long time. I truly saw the benefit of meeting new friends, talking and asking questions to people I had never met before, and involving myself by volunteering. I have always thought I was shy, but when I look back far enough, when I was a little one, I wasn’t shy. I believe my shyness comes from deep insecurity and I am actually very social when I choose to be (with the right amount of alone time and self care). It also helped to have some incredible elders and sisters who were encouraging me to thrive and learn and explore. During the opening ceremony of the Moon session, one of my songs had made it to the organizers and I was asked to lead all 800+ women in a song I wrote . Scariest moment of my life! And so beautiful to see so many women united in Song, Synching heartbeats, and creating a reality of potent words expressed as spells by powerful women to ripple out into the world. To the agave who waited patiently for 75 years to be ready for those yellow flowers; soft and bright; pulling you to the ground where you’ll wither and rest and make way for the next turn of the wheel. To the jack rabbits who showed yourselves and taught me about fear as I measured your tracks in the sandy wash with a ruler printed on the back of a book. To the ocotillo, plump with water saved, proud with fiery tips and swaying. To the thousands of caterpillars, soon to become white-lined sphinx moths, eating the abundant blooms; the migrating Swainson’s hawks who usually devour you, already gone. We’ll rescue her together.
