Your strongest memory of Apollo 11? "Looking back at Earth from a great distance." — Apollo 11 astronaut Michael Collins. Collins, the command module pilot, remained aboard the spacecraft in orbit around the Moon, while Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin descended in the lunar module "Eagle" to the surface on July 20, 1969. This historic Apollo 11 image was taken by the astronauts from lunar orbit. This week, Kaywin Feldman’s name was set in stone in the West Building as the fifth Director of the National Gallery of Art. Feldman’s name was carved by Christine Dunn, with final tinting completed by Nick Benson. There are over forty works on view in Alexander Calder: A Survey at the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C. (@ngadc), many of which are on loan from the Calder Foundation. Situated in Tower 2 of the museum’s iconic I.M. Pei-designed East Building, it is the largest long-term gallery dedicated to the artist in the world.
