Here a full ice sequence we used to combine a few skills into one drill.
1- controlled, fluid hands through the cones. This is done at a slow speed to focus on form (& done at high speeds after a few reps)
2- lateral crossovers through the neutral zone. Exiting the zone, the 3 crossovers are towards the middle to gain speed & mimic attacking the open lane, then 3 more crossover back towards the boards for entering the zone wide with speed.
3- jumping from outside to inside while in stride. The focus here was to link the jump into the stride while gaining power from strong edgework while driving into the shooting lane.
4- controlled inside edge C cuts through the neutral zone focusing on edge control & power.
5- finishing hard from the blue line in with a shot from the slot.
This sequence links a few skills that can all work together in a game to give a player strength with the puck.
Also, drills like this allow players of multiple ages & skills to practice together at the same time. For example, this semi-private skill season had 3 college players, 1 16u, & 2 14u players all skating together. The individual work does not hinder the older players & can gives the younger players motivation & examples to look up to.

Here’s a neutral zone regroup drill from last night’s @msubobcathockey practice.
It starts as a 2-0 out of the corner, then a pass to a D on the far blue line, then a D to D pass, then a pass up to the curling center, then up to the wing for a 2-0 in the zone. The second progression is the same start but turns into a 1v1 after the final pass is made.
Great continuous flow drill to get the legs moving, feel the puck, & replicate some in-game movements through the neutral zone.

Welcome to the team! Rhys Phelps made his Icedog debut in a big way. The Colorado native scored a hat trick and an assist, good for 4 pts, a +3 rating, and the star of the game award in the Icedogs' 8-1 win over the Cobras.

What a wild 48 hours!
As a massive snowstorm rolled into Montana & shut down the highways, it looked like our bus trip to Arizona was impossible. Just as we were considering not being able to make the regional tournament, @allegiant came to the rescue with an unreal assist donating flights for our entire team! We surprised the team with the unbelievable news just as they thought we were heading down the road to nowhere.
We made it to Arizona, gave a few interviews for the local news stations, then headed to the rink to shake off the travel legs. We’re back on the ice tomorrow for an AM pre-game skate then look to make our mark on the tournament in our opening game tomorrow night.
Thank you Allegiant Air for making this weekend happen & saving our season! Time to keep this team rollin’! #rollcats #hockey #montanastateuniversity #hockeylife
