Many years ago, a Barolo from @oddero opened my eyes to the beauty of aged #Nebbiolo. I was new to wine, and I remember that bottle as if I had tasted it yesterday. Fast forward to the present day, and I have the good fortune of tasting these standout wines on an annual basis. Unknown to the Oddero family, I reserved to stay the week at their delightful AirB&B with #tappothedog who made new friends with Vino and Stella. Each time I travel to Barolo and Barbaresco, I stay in a new place so that I can experience the regions more fully. The Winery is located in the town of Barolo and the first harvest dates back to 1983.
Mr. Canonica always thought that the less intervention (with chemical) in the vineyard, the better. This is why his wine are considered some of the most natural and authentic of the region. The vineyard used for this bottle is “Paiagallo”. Really close to the town of Barolo is considered to give more rustic and rugged wines. Ironically this wine is difficult to find In Italy but is very popular in Japan, half of the production is exported there!
But you don’t have to go all the way to Tokyo, you can find some bottle at VINOLAND

The last dinner at Il Verso del Ghiottone in #dogliani we tasted the nebbiolo of one of the most authentic and controversial producers of the Langhe. Flavio Roddolo is an artisan winemaker who transmits his rusticity of soul into his wines. The bond with the soil is strong, as is the terroir that comes out of the glass. A pure wine, a wine of the heart ♥
This Nebbiolo 2009 has a beautiful garnet red, crystalline, with persuasive reflections. The nose is complex, with hints of jam, coffee, tobacco, rich in that personality transmitted by the hands that made it.
The palate is full, full-bodied, with tannins now slightly smoothed by time. The finish is very long, pleasant. A fantastic wine.
Hello Barolo lovers❤️ Today we move to Castiglione Falletto: -Barolo “Monprivato Cà d’Morissio” Riserva 2010 Mascarello Giuseppe e Figlio. The vineyard “Monprivato” is owned by the Mascarello Family in Castiglione Falletto village, with six ha at 280 mt. Above see level, the exposition It’s South-West.
This is an historical vineyard, the first document regarding the place is dated 1666. “Cà d’Morissio” is a selection launched in the early ‘80 on an old Nebbiolo clone, Michét, existing within the Monprivato vineyard. This Barolo it’s dedicated to his grandfather Maurizio “Morissio” in piedmontese dialect.
The soil of this vineyard is composed by marls, clay and limestone.
These elements give a delicate bouquet, persistence taste, elegance and a great evolution.❤️ The Barolo Monprivato is bottled, bearing a numbered author’s label, exclusively in exceptional and excellent years, and also aging in oak barrel from used Slavonia for 40 months after a long maceration. ⏳ Fermentazione naturale senza lieviti aggiunti in vasche in cemento di circa 12 giorni con temperature a partire da 22 C fino ad arrivare a 29 C con successiva macerazione a cappello sommerso per circa 40 – 50 giorni a temperatura di 29 C. Di conseguenza dopo la svinatura si innesca la fermentazione malolattica durata 15 giorni con temperatura costante di 22 C. Dopodiché il vino va in botti da 4500 L in rovere di Slavonia e rovere Francese, ad affinare per 4 anni, per finire con 6 mesi di affinamento in bottiglia
