A fairly low-key "live" album, recorded for radio in front of a small audience. Would have liked a "proper" live album instead but this is also a nice addition to Nick Cave's work. "Mercy Seat" in particular stands out as perhaps being the best version yet and I like the "Push the Sky Away" songs better here than on the original album. @lifomag : What do you think of Stefanos Rokos' project, and the fact that a Greek artist was influenced by this particular album of yours and made a whole artistic project for it? @nickcaveofficial : I am fascinated by Stefanos Rokos’ strange and visionary art - the cluttered, over-saturated areas of impacted memory, the vast, sometimes blank canvases, the sudden erotics, the repeated dreams and reveries, similar images that migrate from painting to painting - all these things are very close to the way I write songs. I think we have an affinity as artists, in that respect. I understand the paintings and feel very close to them as they are the visual counterpart to my often oblique and fractured words. Especially the obsessive detail and the shattered narratives, tossed up against wide open space. Stefanos is a serious and committed painter, who through the process of this work has become a dear friend.
