My heavy heart has been lifted again after taking some time to visit my local mosque this afternoon & deliver a poster that Pilla & I made. I felt so much emotion just walking towards the gates, where the sidewalk has been covered with beautiful messages of love & support to guide me towards the entrance. . The police officer tried his best to give a welcoming smile, but the assault rifle was extremely confronting. Walking in through the gates I was taken aback by the kotahitanga & generosity that’s been shown to our local mosque, a beautiful place where one of my lovely colleagues visits during her lunch break every Friday. I was thinking of her, feeling so grateful that she & her family is safe & hoping she feels supported. . I decided to discuss what had happened with Pilla. He is 7 years old, & was in the car with me as the radio was informing the public of the disaster. Understandably, he just doesn’t get it but we have spoken about this a few times since, & I will continue to be here for his questions & concerns. . With the enlightenment, I recognise where my power is. I have the power to teach my boys to show love & acceptance for all. I will do my best by the children I teach, to demonstrate & encourage kindness and compassion, & I will stand up against racism. Now we have united, we need to acknowledge our power. THE BUILDING SITE My students love building with any resources they can get their hands on! We have larger-scale resources outside such as wooden pallets, wooden planks, bamboo, tyres etc... Inside we have wooden blocks, Lego, mobilo and a few other resources scattered throughout the classroom ⚠️ The "Under Construction" signs are super handy when the students need to come to a reading group - instead of packing up and destroying their creation, they simply put up the sign and the other students know that means "no touching" Having pictures of famous buildings from around the world gives the students inspiration and exposure to "real life" knowledge ⛪ I'm always adding to this area - this week I added some road cones and cardboard cylinders #learningthroughplay #playlearning #nzteachers #kiwiteachers #auteachers #aussieteachers #iteachtoo #iteach2nd #iteachsecond #teachersofinstagram #teachersdownunder #teachersofig #teacherlife #justteacherthings
