This CHEESEY game works on fine motor coordination and visual perceptual skills (figure ground & form constancy). You could play it the regular way by searching for letters on the word cards, or you can adapt it to fit your therapy goals like I did. In today’s session I wanted to target TACTILE defensiveness, LETTER RECOGNITION, and HANDWRITING. First, we each searched for a Bananagrams letter tile in either the sensory bin or slime. Then we identified the letter and found it in the bowl of cheese. Last, we practiced writing the letter in both its uppercase and lowercase form. It was super fun! And of course, this was one of my goodwill finds. Strong inner thigh muscles are essential for strong core muscles as they form a pedestal for the spine to rest upon. Placing a ball between the knees to jump or walk can help a child to focus on these muscles. Try different sized balls. Try aiming for a bucket or bin. Do this in a group as a relay challenge. I rarely use apps these days in my OT sessions, however I’ve just started using these “social detective apps” (there are three levels”) to help consolidate concepts with kids who are working on regulation and social skills. These apps are really good at guiding kids to look at how a person might be thinking or feeling. What are expected behaviours and what is unexpected?
