The rawness is real!
Yep I'm still pregnant.
Yep I haven't put makeup on for over 2 weeks.
Yep I've put weight on in my face.
Oh and yep I've had someone stick their hand in my vagina twice this week

Let’s talk about FUNDAL MASSAGE (aka those devilish uterine massages your nurse or provider does after birth) not a typical massage!
.
Not the most fun, they can be pretty uncomfortable (I remember them well) but very necessary!
.
Uterine massage (also called “fundal rubs”) is typically done right after you deliver your baby, whether you’ve delivered vaginally or via c-section!
.
Your nurse or provider will take their hand, find the top part of your uterus (aka, your FUNDUS), and push down hard and steady for a few seconds.
.
Typically fundal rubs are done every 15 mins for the first two hours after your birth, and then spaced out much more (usually every 4 hours for a bit, then once per shift)
.
Fundal rubs play an effective part in managing and preventing postpartum hemorrhage-when you lose a LOT of blood after having a baby (that’s why we do them).
.
When I’m doing a fundal rub, I’m assessing how firm your uterus feels, where it’s located in your abdomen, and how much bleeding I’m seeing come out on your pad.
.
I want to feel that your uterus is FIRM, MID-LINE, and your bleeding is appropriate (there isn’t a TON coming out with clots and such).
.
After birth, your uterus is still fairly stretched out, from accommodating baby for 9 months. We want that uterus to really start contracting down, and begin to shrink back to its pre-pregnancy size. (This take a full 6 weeks to do)
.
If any of those assessments deviates from normal (like say, your uterus is a bit more soft than hard) it gives me a clue that you may be on your way to a postpartum hemorrhage, so I may want to intervene, and assess you a bit more!
.
.

Sleeping on your back during pregnancy? ♀️
.
I’ve heard so many women stress over the fact that they wake up in the middle of the night and they are on their backs!
.
I want to let you know that IF you wake up in the middle of the night on your back, don’t FRET! Just roll over.
.
The reasoning WHY providers advise against spending long periods of time on your back during pregnancy is this:
.
You have a big artery called your AORTA that runs down your back.
.
This blood vessel is responsible for feeding blood to all the parts of your body!
.
When you lie on your back, ESPECIALLY during late pregnancy, your large, heavy, uterus may compress your aorta and decrease blood flow to your organs.
.
One of these organs being your PLACENTA
.
And when you decrease blood flow to your placenta, baby can get less blood flow, which means less oxygen. So it CAN be dangerous.
.
LUCKILY if this is actually happening, you will likely become symptomatic after sometime because your other organs are getting less blood flow too!
.
You may become dizzy, light-headed, nauseated etc.
.
That’s a defense mechanism that your body provides you, it tells you when something is up and you need to change positions if you feel crappy!
.
So, moral of the story, just roll over! Don’t panic because you woke up on your back! You may have woken up because your body is telling you it’s time to roll over!

Just in case you guys didn’t know
.
Even though MUCH more advanced than they were years ago, ultrasounds still aren’t 100% accurate at predicting sex!
.
Has this happened to anyone? It happened to a few people I know!
