#ad "My whole life I've been living to do my treatments instead of doing my treatments to live" is something that the character Stella (@haleyluhoo ) says in the new movie about cystic fibrosis, @fivefeetapartfilm . There are so many parts of this movie that are unbelievably spot on. One of the themes is about the fight to wanting to live your life but being forced not to because of medicine regimen. This is a great example of how your mental health plays such a huge role in having a chronic illness. You will notice in the movie that they’re always carrying @philips SimplyGo mini oxygen machines with them everywhere they go. I, personally, have never needed supplemental oxygen, but it is often something most of us do need. Modern medicine has come so far so it is very hopeful to know technology is ever evolving and having medicine that is easy to use day to day helps tremendously, but the reminder of being sick still lingers. Isolation is a major theme that seems to follow each of us, but when I noticed people like me posting their stories on social media, something clicked. These people had incredible stories stories about strength, truth, inspiration and positivity; but unlike me, they were actually living their lives instead of dwelling on the negatives. I felt more connected and apart of a community of people who were struggling just like me but making the best of a bad situation. That was when I started to began to realize that it wasn't my cf that was ruining my life, but it was my mindset that was. Changing how I used to feel wasn’t easy and I’m not here to tell you it was. It was very difficult and many times I felt beaten down. Mental health is something we all deal with but you don’t have to face it alone. Now I can actually say that I can accept that this is who I am and my health is something I'll always have to fight for. I've chosen to do my treatments to live, not the other way around. You may have seen in my story or on fb that our baby Arden has been sick for over a week now. He has RSV which is a respiratory virus that for adults and older kids is a barely noticeable cold. For babies their tiny airways fill up with secretions and it can be quite dangerous. We had some scary moments but he is on the upswing. I can’t say enough good things about @seattlechildrens and the amazing staff. They are the best of the best. Me and my ex squad ... I'm thankful for the machines and devices that helped keep me alive. But now I have no more need for them. We have gone our separate ways✌. These were the things that I was attached to 24/7, relying on them to breathe, always a constant noise of air. I was always surrounded by the noise of slight rushing air, never a silent moment while wearing oxygen. My sense of smell was also affected, barely being able to smell food which also in turn affected how things tasted. Now post transplant I can smell and hear everything, and it's awesome!! Not being attached to anything I feel so free! I can just zip around without carrying a backpack outside the house. I don't have tubing trailing behind me at home. Laima would always know where I was, no way to sneak up on her! But now... I am a silent ninja! The reason I still have all my O2 supplies is because the doctors want to wait a bit before I have the o2 company pick it all up just in case I may need it for some reason or another. For now, they will be sitting silently unused in the corner and basement. I hope to never have to hang out with that squad (o2) again! ✌ peace out Girl Scout! ✌blog post up! "That breath that you just took... That's a gift." - Rob Bell HEALTH UPDATE During the last week I had the opportunity to use additional oxygen rent by my pneumologist. I want to you meet Ella. Yes, my bestie @anne_al gave my oxygen machine a name. And I am thankful that I was allowed to write with Kimberly from @adventures_zanna, because she's using an oxygen machine with the same system. Ella soaks in the air in my surrounding and filters it so I am able to breathe in almost pure oxygen. I am so thankful for modern medicine At my prom, this machine was a big help. It helped me to save energy and still enjoy my prom to the fullest. Also, I struggled with pain and fatigue but not as fast and havy as usual during such a stressful situation for my body. Moreover, I used the oxygen multiple times during the week and every time it was such a relief for my body to not struggle with breath taking, having a stable saturation and it was also good to know that I had oxygen in case of an emergency. I think having additional oxygen is such a bug benefit for me, especially in stressful situations or during sport training sessions. However, I can't really say how well I could handle my life right now with or without oxygen, because during this week wasn't fully loaded in comparison to a week when I used to go to school. I often told myself, today I don't need oxygen, because until now, I mostly went through my struggles without oxygen. I guess it would be something different if I used it in a week with more stress or school or sth. So, I will definitely wait for rehab to try out using oxygen again, especially in case I receive a certain sport schedule. Then, I was a bit disappointed, that the battery went low pretty fast, so I always needed to plan to have a good timing or to go to places where I could charge it. Maybe I could change the battery? Does anyone know about it? Best thing: everyone accepted me with my tube and nobody said anything bad. We were still joking around, laughing and didn't thought about the noises, Ella made. All in all: it was such a useful and great experience. PS: What do you think about more colorful pictures like this?
