Wishing I was wandering down this dirt path into the foggy woods This monstera leaf is my largest painted leaf yet, and I admit it’s growing especially dear to me... not to mention it’s from one of my favorite house plants (don’t tell the others)! Lately I’ve been interested in trying to describe a feeling through my landscapes. I would love to hear what this painting makes you feel!

Blocked in and ready to dive into details. Color at this point is all tentative to change, not tremendously, but I'm expecting some alterations as I go. It's felt like it's taken forever to get here though as a scene like this in this size is something I'm not used to. - I think composition and the complexity that all the rams added to it were what contributed to the difficulty. Making sure that each outline is crisp and that I have a clear understanding of where I'm headed with the foreground are my biggest concerns. - For now though, I'm going to get right into oils and start breathing life into the sky. To have a painting come from my own personal experiences and reference material is like a dream come true. - Ever since I was a child I would imagine being able to sneak in on #wildlife. I would draw them, photograph them, and bring the inspiration back to eventually create a large #masterpiece from it all.. Well as I'm sure many other artists have experienced, that's easier said than done. - Getting close to wildlife once you spot something is actually one of the easier parts if you ask me. Knowing the landscape, the best access, where the #animals are based on the season, and having good conditions for the camera are just some of the things that make it so difficult. - So when it worked out that we were able to locate a few herds of #bighorns down low on their winter range, I knew we had to return with the camera gear. - I was able to get within 30 yards of three different #rams when we returned, allowing me to take thousands of reference photos and ample amounts of video. - A bighorn #painting has been a goal of mine for so long, and I've had a number of encounters, but I've never been able to get the reference I wanted. So without delay, I got back with my photos and began the long awaited project. - This is the first smaller study I'm painting which will lead up to a larger, more dramatic scene. I may do another study like this prior to the large canvas, but we'll see how this one goes.
