Now to one of the most infamous “Paper Panzers” out there, Signal magazine’s Panzer IX and Panzer X. Covering fictitious tanks isn’t exactly something I commonly do but have done previously so I feel obligated to cover these two unique designs. Panzer IX and Panzer X were intended to misdirect and fool the allies into thinking the Germans had super powerful, modern vehicles in development o active service though it fooled no one at the time but are quite unique designs none the less. Both are often listed as super-heavy tanks but with no real specifications we can’t be sure but their designs seem to point to them being some kind of heavy vehicle. Starting with Panzer IX we see a rounded front area that slopes up and covers most of the turret and the main gun, possibly a 75mm KwK 42, is mounted high in the turret. The running gear are also completely covered by the side armor, unsure if sides are also rounded. A unique design clearly focused around protecting the front, which limits gun elevation angles but if planned for fighting on the Eastern Front there’s no need since most of terrain is flat. Now to the Panzer X which has a similar hull shape but with a raised hull deck and a equally sloped rear, the turret is more conventional with a possible 88mm KwK 36 or KwK 43 armament mounted centrally and with a large mantlet to protect most of the turret face, the turret resembles the earlier Panzer VII “Löwe” design but smaller and more compact, the hull sides also feature protection over the running gear with the bottom portion of the road wheels exposed, also unsure if rounded or not. We also see a mg. poking out of the front hull something the Panzer IX didn’t feature. Again a unique design albeit more conventional than the Panzer IX but with some interesting features. It’s clear these designs were made by artists not skilled designers as they are plagued with flaws but they give some amount of insight into what they believed the “future” of armor design would look like with the knowledge they had of the time. . . . . #tank #tanks #panzer #german #germany #ww2 #ww2tank #ww2tanks #paperpanzer

[PROJECT] March 2019: There it is - my new project! I chose the Pz.Kpfw. VII Löwe (VK7201) for a variety of reasons. This is my first model kit from Amusing Hobby and this is my first real Paperpanzer that never existed like this.
