She’s about to become a mom and I know she’s going to raise an incredibly badass, independent, beautiful daughter. I cannot wait. . We designed her nursery together and Kellie had her heart set on a @westelm crib, but the price tag was way above her budget I suggested we check out the @potterybarnoutletsc outlet about an hour away to see if we could find something comparable. When we got there, they had the crib, but not in the color she wanted. We called the @westelmasheville outlet to see if they had it- they did, and at a fourth of the original price. We drove another two hours in torrential downpours through the mountains to go get it. Cope women, we will do anything for a sale. . We arrived only to have the power go out right as we walked into the store. They had the crib, but they couldn’t run Kellie’s credit card because the machines were down. All the ATMs in driving distance weren’t working either. We decided to make ourselves comfortable on a sofa and try to wait out the storm. . About 30 minutes of Instagram scrolling later, I remembered that I had won money playing blackjack at the casino the night before (a hidden talent of mine ). The crib was $264.36. . I had exactly $263 and Kellie had literally $2 in her wallet. She started crying (not sure if it was the sale price or the hormones) we paid cash, with 64 cents to spare, and hauled the crib to the car in the pouring down rain. It was perfect, a memory we will never forget, and completely secured my position as favorite aunt. . I’d also like to point out that while my little sister is being all responsible having a baby, I’m out here playing blackjack ‍♀️

She always finds me. A restaurant booth? She will press up against my side ... even though there is three feet of space to the right of her. The kitchen? She will eat her bowl of strawberries while standing up against my leg ... even though a stool and an open counter are a foot away. At Church? She will be on my lap for the full hour... even though we left plenty of room for her in the pew. Wherever I am, my three year old will find me. The other night, I woke up with my pillow falling onto the night stand and the bottom half of my body on the leftover inch of space on the edge of the bed. My little one had found her way into my bed and made herself right at home in my space so much that it was almost completely hers. I laughed and shook my head as I thought about how she found her comfy spot even in the subconscious of her sleep. EVEN THOUGH there was room to sprawl out on the other 3/4 of the bed, she found her familiar. For a 3-year-old loving her mom? It's all very sweet. But for that mom and her goals and dreams? Not so much. Because I realized that I'm a little like my daughter when it comes to living my fullest potential. EVEN THOUGH there's a big empty canvas of opportunity out there for me to sprawl out on, my mind and soul tends to gravitate toward what's familiar. I don't always consciously know I'm doing it; my brain just knows what's comfortable. It knows where it has felt safe before and where it wants to go again. But is it safe to be in the familiar anymore? Is it safe to not experience what's on the other side of comfortable? Is it safe to not listen to the inner voice that's begging me to break my own boundaries? I don't know that it is. For my 3-year-old? She can stay right here where she's comfortable. As she learns and grows, I know she needs my guidance. But one day? She's going to have to leave my side. She's going to have to experience, learn, love, dream, thrive and evolve on her own. But me? My safe space has already served me. And if I want to teach my daughter how to fly even when she's scared of what's on the other side of safe... I've got to spread my wings and show her how.

When the sun goes dooooooown I was lucky enough to see this absolutely breathtaking sunset in person. After I had an engagement session downtown, I decided to take an impromptu trip to Mt.
