My commitment to myself, friends, family, followers and world was to show up. Yep, me. I wasn’t showing up for my life. Flying totally under the radar waiting for change (read “perfection”) before I would be seen. This year, I made it a point to be “visible” and not wait for things to be perfect before showing up - Not waiting for my weight, website, hair, skin, finishing another course I’ve purchased, book...life. I didn’t do this alone. My family cheered me on when I decided to go in a different direction this year. My biz besties and accountability partners (@pattihaus, @michellevlowery & @barbchaney ) helped me with mindset issues. They pushed when I dug my heels in the #southflorida sand. Part of my visibility plan was to take professional pics and do more video. Even though I’m still working on video (baby steps), I connected with a photographer (@incommonphotography ) who captured my best asset (my happiness) on her camera. She doesn’t know how much it meant for her to make me laugh during the session. Last, but not least, there are countless blogger/influencer friends who encouraged me without saying a word directly to me. @ceceolisa told me not to wait on my weight to show up. (I’m listening!) @jasminestar pushed me to live and document my best authentic life during each of her #socialcurator lives. @amyporterfield cheered me on as I developed my upcoming courses on DCA and my plan to go live. And, @marieforleo reminds me that only I can share the gifts that I have with the world. I can go on. And, I will. This has been my mantra in my life. I have to try. I can’t give up. I can’t NOT do it! Have I failed? Of course! Have I quit on my dreams? Plenty of times. There is one difference - I try again. Frustration and overwhelm can consume you for a moment, but not following your dreams can be the travesty of a lifetime. This is how my #entrepreneurialdreams of starting a business finally took speed. It is how I finished my graduate degrees, coach other bloggers/entrepreneurs on Pinterest, and show up everyday. After the Mondayest Thursday ever (the natives were getting restless) and a ghosted appointment regarding our move, I'm reminded of this important quote from Maya Angelou. I even had my girls memorize it tonight to remind them of days where this quote really shines and reminds them that kindness and people matter. Even in the thick of today's slog, I received the sweetest DM from a person I admire out of the blue sharing that she was 'proud' of me. . Encouragement is so powerful and you never know how a kind word can meet someone in their dark hours. Humour helps too.

I'm a pretty inquisitive person. . As a kid, I was always thinking about how something worked, part by part (this might also be due to my engineer dad). As an adult, I still love documentaries and that weird candy show on Food Network where they show you how they craft and package various nostalgic candies (was it called Unwrapped? Were you a fan too?). . Nearly three years ago, I reached out to a best friend from college (Fighting Texas Aggie Class of 06!) and took a chance. Struggling with our single income and a desire to learn something new, I asked if there was a way I could help and serve her growing and amazing home decor business. She said yes (and it was also an answer to her prayer) and handed off a few of her social platforms for me to manage, including Pinterest. . One year and many internet rabbit trails later (this was 2017), I was sitting at Pinterest headquarters (that interview took some bravery to request) interviewing a promoted pin partner asking her all kinds of questions about how Pinterest works (the actual headquarters is pretty amazing too). . And now, here I am. Still asking questions about this whole entrepreneur gig, and learning so much each day.
